One school summer hols - around 12yrs old, All my mates had turned on me for some reason & I was getting bullied. So I stayed in, found some old paints under the kitchen sink and painted a massive mural covering the whole of one of my bedroom walls. Amazing dinosoar scene. I was in heaven doing that. Still wonder if its still there, although its likely under wallpaper now. :)

Probably because apparently the bedroom where I lived in as a teenager was found to have my Twiggy type drawings under layers of wallpaper. I remember me and my friend we were about 16 spending one Saturday doing all this cool mod stuff. :)

Oh no doubt - it was 50 or so years ago :)

This is a nice place to escape to when t'other bits of this forum get too much lol. :P

Reading of all this dangerous stuff we did as kids really makes you think eh? No cotton wool for kids in t'olden days.

I was just thinking of the park with the swings and roundabouts we used to go to as kids with the maypole thing with big heavy iron chains and when you got off your hands would be orange from the rust and you would have segs.

Going on the swings and jerking as high as you could to try and get over the bar at the top (never did lol) and trying to jump off from as high as you dared.

The big slide climb right up those ricketty stairs and whizz down tucking your clothes right under you so you would go down faster.

The roundabout whizzing round and round so fast you felt sick. Jumping on and off at will.

None of the above would be allowed now!! Elf and safety.

And here is something that definitely wouldn't be allowed nowadays and I am defo giving away my age here :D if you fell over in the park and say scraped your knee or elbow there would be a old man sitting in a little hut (we called him the cocky watchman) and he would take you in his little hut and put some TCP on with some cotton wool!!!!

Aye t'good old days. :larf:

Blimey, and I thought Gilly was old :hahano:

We had an outside loo (one inside too though).

I recall a gas man working at a neighbour's house nipped round and asked me if we had a pilot light.

Thinking this must be some kind of blow-torch type tool, I bellowed across the yard, "Dad have you got a pilot light this man can borrow?", and him shouting back, "What? Can I not even have a c**p in peace?"

Ah, sweet childhood memories. :hahano:

Hay Jumps. Dragging loads of bails of hay from recently harvested fields &. scattering it at the bottom of old railway embankments then diving from the top into the bed of hay. We got scratches & bruises and sometimes felt quite sore, but i don't recall anyone suffering a broken bone, concussion or any serious injury. pretty sad that the adventurous side of childhood has been all but wiped out.
