"After a wee discussion on chat the other night in relation to SZ sending flowers to Jims funeral, as Dawn has already kindly said she'll arrange some flowers on behalf of the forum I thought that instead of this we could send donations to Jim's son Jamie instead. At a time like this, I'm sure he'd appreciate something that might help in the long run..

The process of thought then went further and the idea that we could forward any donations the site receives throughout the year which go over the amount needed to keep the forum going, could also be forwarded on to Jamie and that we keep that as an ongoing feature to SZ given the tragic circumstances regarding Jim's untimely passing. In other words this years costs are met so any subsequent donations would be forwarded to Jamie.

What does everyone else think? ...

It's a yes from me. He's just a kid and it's hard enough out there as it is without losing his dad at such a tender age.

I think it is a lovely idea to give him some money rather than it going on flowers, as it will at least help to releive at least one worry for him at this time....

As for on-going, my advice would be to consider this at a later and less emotionally connected time, as it could be a source of discontent if some then decide not to or not enough is received, as the fact is people do move on with their lives from such situations, and even though it seems a good idea at the time due to how emotionally raw it has left many, sustaining that is a different thing, and could leave some awkwardness.....

Whereas as a one-off does give him the assistance he could do with for now, but then it allows others to heal and move on with some closure....this is just some friendly advice as i see it

Yea, I said I'd rather do something practical for Jamie that sending flowers, and that fits the bill nicely.

Here in the UK it costs around £2000-£3000 for the funeral as i've recently found out.

Unfortunately i won't be giving any money for Jim as i'm skint.
