It's embarrassing to think those three were ahead of him in the first place..

Carrick seems to be one of those players people love to hate, as they can't judge a footballer properly, and so when he makes a mistake (which is quite rare) they all jump and tell you that they knew he was shite all along.
But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma,
a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

He's taken a loooong time to win over loads of United fans. They just didn't seem to understand his game, or his role in the team.
I said to a mate of mine at the end of last season 'do you still think he's shit?'.... yep! just sideways passes. I showed him all the stats that showed otherwise... still wouldn't have it! Wood/trees.
I'd say the majority appreciate him now though.

I'm only guessing you've actually played football SB?

The majority of people who haven't actually played for any length of time will just fail to understand why players like Carrick are so important to a team. Hey ho, that's English football for ya though..

Not for a long long time! :D
I'm pretty sure a game would kill me now.
I think the thing with Carrick is you hardly even notice he's playing. He's not someone who really stands out in a game very often.
Just does his job with minimum fuss.. doesn't go dicking about off field shooting people with air rifles or setting fire to his house on purpose or shagging his gran.

You hit the nail on the head there SB, he just does his job without doing anything too flashy. You'll never see him beat five men and then score from 30 yards, but what he does do is just keep the team ticking over nicely and controls the tempo with his passing. Something usually lost to the untrained eye.

Cracking player though, although maybe I am a bit biased towards him being from the North-East.

I reckon that's a good plan..... that way the average wingers won't get a look in !
They tried the diamond a couple of times last season & it seemed a bit weird for United to not be playing wingers.
It's more likely they'll go for the 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 with wingers but my preference would be a 4-2-3-1.

On 27th November, 2008, Portsmouth drew 2-2 at Fratton Park with AC Milan. At the time, Fleetwood Town were in the bottom six of the Conference North, the sixth flight of English football, and had sacked their manager in September, 2008 when they were bottom of the table.

Does anyone even conceivably believe this story?
