When the people of the country have forgotten how to disagree
And the national economy is said to be OK
And the wages that you get will help you to forget
Will you keep your ideologies or throw them all away?

When the system has you beaten
Even now you haven't eaten
Cos you can't afford to eat or drink to keep your brain alive
You blame the system for the weather but carry on as ever
You go to work at half past eight and come back home at five

You can go blue in the face talking about the human race
How they got to outer space but it never stopped the wars
And how the whole of this humanity is based on greed and vanity
The ones who make decisions are the ones who make the laws

But you're still in this society
So what's your main priority
Remain in the majority who never really cared?
Or cultivate the hate to annihilate the state
Are you prepared to die for your beliefs or just to dye your hair?

The anarchist, the nihilist but can you prove that you exist
To apopulation who insist you're just a bunch of fakes
You cannot change the system until you change your own restrictions
Communication and conviction - got to kick until it breaks

The only thing to be really ashamed of in that street, is this.
The squalid rented four-bedroom home on TV’s controversial Benefits Street is so riddled with damp that water runs down the walls.

There is no heating because the boiler has long been broken – and the tenant’s children are so frozen at night they sleep with their clothes on.

But the biggest disgrace about the house in James Turner Street is the landlord who owns it – a millionaire Tory and one time friend of Margaret Thatcher who makes a fortune raking in housing benefits .

Businessman Paul Nischal – whose property firm is called Goldfinger – owns three houses in the road made infamous by the Channel 4 reality show.

The Indian-born Conservative is believed to pocket nearly £3,000 a month from struggling residents in Britain’s street of shame – most of it in taxpayer-funded benefits.

There's a lot of it about, Mikey.

Its pretty rife all over tbh, but recently round these parts I've noticed lots of old garages and sheds at the end of gardens being 'converted' into flats anorl. I took a stroll along one such fine promenade recently, and where once there were burnt out cars and rubbish bags, there are now burnt out cars, rubbish bags - and families.

I'm not even going to pretend that the local authority aren't aware of it. As far as I'm aware, planning permission is required to convert these places into 'habitable' residences...so, there's your answer.

Grim reading, and it seems that while landlords have been enjoying the deregulation back to Rachmanism, the life of other less wealthy citizens has become so regulated that they daren't breathe too loud for fear of fines and benfit cuts and a whole array of penalties and such.

It has been said that we live in socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor, but has anybody noticed that the rich landlords are allowed more and more "freedom" to gouge, while the life of the poor increasingly resembles that of Winston Smith 6079

Who has been stitched up? A quote from the article

"She has since, however, become one of the programme’s most vocal critics and recently accused producers of treating her and her fellow residents ‘like scum’."

The she is Black Dee who has been charged with drugs and firearms offences. I do not think she is able to understand how she comes over to other people, until she saw herself and how she behaves on TV. Then it is as if she is watching another person who she regards as scum. Meanwhile she cannot accept that person is actually her.

If anyone doubts there are people like Black Dee and the other residents of Benefits Street who have come over as badly as her, I suggest a trip to your local courthouse. Sit in the witness rooms as well as the court and watch some cases, particularly a hearing of those who appear from police custody. You will see that people like Black Dee and Fungi and shoplifter bloke do exist. Their criminal, feckless and addictive behaviour renders them virtually unemployable. They need regular help with the likes of social work interventions. Their chaotic lifestyle means such help often fails. So they drift through life not doing very much and living off benefits and crime.

I wonder how Paul Nischal is able to look at himself in the mirror. It is disgusting how some people behave and this shows there are scum in all sections of society, not just the people of Benefits Street. Rich scum, poor scum, middle class scum, some people just do not know how to behave in a civilised decent respectful way.

Something i really do not understand is why so many peeps need benefits.
I'm not talking about reality here but principles lol.
Surely a Society that pays so little for work that family's HAVE to receive benefits to survive is a bit fecked?
Maybe i'm a little naive about economics but to tax so much that the State needs to provide benefits seems a bit perverse to me!!
Or is the game to employ so many peeps shuffling so many pieces of paper about who gets what and why the issue?
Is that the game?
Employ civil servants to create such a load of bollocks that we all fight like dogs for our share of the pie to only realize that we are ALL being screwed?
Like education.
Freedom of choice lol!!
ALL schools should be the same,FECKING GOOD!!!
You go to your local GREAT school.
Only the peeps with the noggin or money get their kids in the good schools and FECK everyone else!!
Oh and "THEY" increase their "carbon footprint" getting there!!!
Oh and feck everyone else!!!
Choice!!!!
"Choice" as far as any Politician puts it simply means "i will feck YOU!!!!"
That is simply apartheid for the less able either through lack of money, influence or noggin!!
NO fault in blaming peeps for their lack of noggin.
That IS the agenda.
Fight your neighbor NOT the State!!!
It's ALL bollocks to me!!!
It is good that articles ARE appearing about the parasites that feed off our Society but to me the whole of the State is a Parasite feeding of us!!

40% of those who have been called in for a benefits assessment have declined and found jobs instead. I'll let that speak for itself! ;)

Given that theres 32 trillion untaxed in the cayman islands I would have to say that taxation is not the cause of why so many earn shit wages.

Thats tax on the bottom earners specifically then.

TBH though, I still fail to see how 20 odd k a year in the UK even if completely untaxed would pay for a decent life thats expected with a wife + kids etc.

Given that working families tax credits does actually bring NET income to that level it renders the whole point moot does it not?
All you're left with then is VAT and a few other bits n bobs.

As i said i'm not some pundit, just an average Joe.
Where is the logic in TAXING someone to then PAY OUT BENEFITS?
Can someone please answer this with out resorting to some bollocks propaganda, scare mongering tactics that belong on the DI.COM

Because its considered easier to apply tax across the board and then adjust afterwards, I'm guessing this is because in the UK tax is deducted by the employer directly, so employers would have to calculate and adjust for every single employee and then there would be the question of entitlement etc which some people wouldn't want the employer to be involved with for privacy reasons amongst others.
So really its a question of (ironically) creating more red tape lol (which yeah you would expect to be easier by simply not taxing such people but such is the way of inland revenue, bear in mind that the tax credits are often above and beyond what people pay in tax, so they'd have to setup a rebate each month for a lot of people EVEN IF they were untaxed!)

What specifically irks me more is the 32 trillion in the cayman island accounts totally untaxed :)
Thats half the global GDP...so its little wonder we get shit wages in the first place, its being deliberately withheld and hoarded by the elite.

Just yet another reason why the whole monetary system if a flawed concept, let alone bothering to look at government taxation.
You can the ADD to that the fractional reserve banking only creating new money in the form of debt and then ADD to that the financial sector dealing in financial instruments that literally do not exist and have ludicrously inflated values and the ADD to that the housing market with prices way way waaaayyy beyond affordability and it starts to get glaringly obvious that we are unbelievably screwed.

Normal supply+demand freemarket economics went out the window sometime in the 19th century lol.... yet people still think thats whats going on.

What 'should' happen is that employees (human beings) should not be taxed at all on their labour.
Incorporated legal PERSONS should pay tax.
Money should be issued by govt treasury at 0% interest with taxation used to prevent inflation NOT to 'pay' for services..
Banks should only be allowed to loan out what they have on deposit and as such depositors should be considered as speculative investors.
Stock market traders should only be allowed to trade stocks and shares, real PHYSICAL assets and they should take IMMEDIATE DELIVERY on trade.

As you can imagine, house prices would plummet to levels affordable with CASH, same goes for all sorts of other things because banks will only loan on sure bets.
Banks would no longer be able to speculate on paper instruments built on paper instruments and would become something for investment not to enslave everyone and force them all to have electronic accounts (no doubt leading to chips).
Ordinary joe would have a stable economy, with decent supply+demand and a chance to compete with the big boys and get a bigger slice of the cake.

Ideally I'd rather see money disappear altogether as humanity should evolve beyond it soon, indeed technological advance will demand it as imperative for progress at a certain point. If resources become abundant then man should be working for pleasure and interest instead of just to pay bills. In fact, I see this as being a more realistic achievement than getting the above done with going back to real money again because the people in power simply will not allow it and the people in power are backed by millions who ought to know better but never will.

Yeah i get all that.
The bit about the19th Century is a bit old.
I'm 50.
When i was a lad blokes worked in a factory for 40-50hrs a week.
Women stayed at home not earning anything!!!!!
They managed to pay their counsel house rent, got a bit of child benefit if they had kids, had a colour tv,went to the Costa Brava on holiday.
I never knew anyone "sponging" off the state in work.
Where has all the bloody money gone?
I say AGAIN.
How can it make economic sense for the state to tax it's workers so much it has to then pay out benefits to those same workers to make ends meet? :axe:
It make NO sense.
The whole system is in knots whilst the most vulnerable get the least.
That seems to me to be the motivation.
Whilst the top 10% laugh all the way to the bank. :axe:

As I said before, half the global GDP sits in offshore bank accounts untaxed. Thats where the money has gone.
Its the inevitable end result of government fiddling with economics at the bankers behest.
We have got to the stage now where you need 'tax credits' and 'help2buy' etc etc. If they don't do it then they're looking at revolt.
It almost makes you want to perhaps egg Ian Duncan Smith on and to keep making cuts because one day it'll be his throat that gets cut.

It is because big business can in the present market system get away with paying low wages, which the social democratic state we live in has decided to top up. It is government preventing the excesses of an unregulated capitalist system.

Ab's the whole tax cerdit thing confuses me

When are we all going to turn round to the government and say 'stop playing silly buggers' and if you encourage EMPLOYERS to pay a decent wage for the emploee's effort there would be no need for working tax credits

My preference would also be to have a high minimum wage and no top up benefits for low incomes. The principle is a better one as people get paid for their work, as opposed a government hand out.
