Good news! I got a rehearsal room! Finally. It took just goddamn two years to find a suitable one. This ones just 150meters away from my place, it's cheap, space and it's possible to play there any time of the day. Damn I'm so happy I could just explode!
And our last gig so far went quite good, here's some videos, don't mind the soundquality, the acoustics of that place and the PA system sucked, other than that, it was a blast! Not too many people though, there were about 50 people there + the bands...

Here's the gear I'm using, this kit is designed for playing live, just the essentials, enough stuff to play nearly anything and still quite easy to move around.

Pretty darn usual these days, in the 80's it was often other way around. I try to keep some kind of a balance there, I've got four cymbals just as an effect type of thing, I don't continuously use them, but tho Hi-hats, Ride and four Crashes is quite essential for the music I play.
Normally I would have few tom toms more, but I took few off to lessen the load, it's easier to take all the stuff to gigs with little less everything.
By the way, I got the rehearsalroom, I just came back from there, will be moving there tomorrow.

Drummers in rock bands have the same fitness levels as Premiership footballers.
Looking at that kit I'm not surprised.
Yea, I read that study too, and I can totally agree! At least on toughness of the job, it's very physically demanding, specially when playing fast music like thrash or death metal etc. I think this hold true on most professional drummers, many young folks I've seen are just plain lazy, not really hitting the drums hard enough for good sound and they do things the easy way. But then there's guys who put everything into you can count me on the latter group.
Only minus health wise is that there's not much to do with abs and back when drumming. Funny thing, I know guys who have been going to gym for years, yet I have bigger arm muscles, just from playing drums. Well, drumming is really about technique more than strength, but I like to do it energetically.

People have been pushing me at TZ to come over here and talk music to you guys... I've missed SZ people too. Been thinking of visiting for some time now.
I see that my last post is from June last year... A lot has happened since. Where should I start. We got a rehearsal room. And it's a big one, over 60 square meters, and its cheap, and its two minutes walk away from my apartment. And on top of that, I got the contract for the place now after the previous guy left, so its actually MY rehearsal room. My room, my friends, my rules. Situation couldn't be much better. Only if I would actually own the place.
Ok, then.. We've played quite a few gigs last year.. We're having a break at the moment, have been writing new songs and released a live demo. We're also quite ready to record our second studio demo, that's only a matter of time when we start on that one. Some gigs are also booked for this year, we just took some new promotion pictures and what not. Oh yea, we might be making a music video this summer.
And then we have a new bassist. There was a lot of conflict and shit with the previous guy, so when he moved to another town, we kicked him out, there was no really choise, there was much personal stuff which couldn't be solved. Anyway, we found a new bassist in no time, a young guy, quiet, nice dude who does what he's supposed to and doesn't make unnecessary noise about himself. He's also becoming very proficient with the bass, I've never seen anybody develop playing skills that fast.
I have been updating my drumgear a lot, new kind of drumheads, plenty of new cymbals and what have you. And there's more better stuff to come. Here's few pictures of my kit, if you're interested:
And the icing on the cake, here's some brand new drumming videos to watch.
Drumtrack of the title song of the first demo, Antabus Reaction.
This one's called Antabus For All, never before released song, again, drums only so you wont get everything in one go.
And last one, Improvised drumsolo, just for laughs. I overplayed a LOT, so don't mind the mistakes.

That kit looks fucking awesome mate - loving the saw blade
I posted the Antibus For All solo in the Damn Good Tunes a few days ago - hope you don't mind - after seeing it on your FB page. If I'd known you were gonna come back to SZ I would have allowed you the privilege of showing it off yourself.
The sooner you guys record some more stuff, get noticed and start touring Europe, the sooner we can see you live.

No problem, thanks! Free promotion, I welcome that with open arms.
We've started to be noticed in Finland at least... Having being mention on Radio Rock.. One label was interested at one point and Finnish metal heads are starting to know the name. More gigs, more demos, more videos, more songs, more everything, that's the way to go. Touring Europe.. hmmh, I think that might be few years away, who knows.
In the meantime, we need more experience and practice. Oh yea, if you want to share my music where ever, feel free to! There's nothing better than friends promoting music. I'm waiting for the 'hundredth monkey' to hit in.

If the label were interested once there's no reason why they wouldn't be interested again at a later stage. Fingers crossed.
Being an emerging metal band in Europe is tough enough, but it must be doubly hard in Finland where there is so much competition. A bit like being a rapper in LA.
You should have started a Finnish hip-hop crew instead Might have been easier.

Oh yea, Hugo, that sawblade is sort of a homage to W.A.S.P. And thanks for the complement, I really have worked to get everything just right with my kit, and I ain't finished with it yet. Drumsets are bit like paintings, they're never ready, there's always something to improve, be it sound, functionality or looks.
The next thing I'm getting is my very own unique custom snare drum. I just made a great deal for 1980's Yamaha snare, the deep one, 14"x8" with brass shell. The point is, the shell is broken in two for some unknown reason, I got it really cheap. only 100€. So, I'm bying a all birch shell, use the hardware from the Yamaha snare, do the finish and assembly myself. And I'll make that thing a looker, something unique. I'm yet to decide what kind of finish I want though..

you seem to be quite knowledgeable about music business in Finland? You following the scene here? The problem is that there's so few people and so many bands, specially metal bands.... There's one every damn corner. Too much bands, most are total crap, but the good stuff gets drowned into the static. Finnish metal sells better in Europe, and they also give better riviews usually. Finns have too many bands and they're a picky audience, you have to be really good to stand out in here.
And how did you know to pull out the hip-hop card? Finnish rap 'artists' do greater than ever... They fucking fill huge venues and sell tons of their shit. And kids love them. But that's always the thing with what ever is fashionable. Heavy metal's out these days.

I've a friend who is a huge metal head and he is very much into European bands - anything north of Germany - and it's constantly playing when I visit.
The rap suggestion was a joke I didn't realise it was a big thing in Finland, I should have guessed though. As much as I like hip-hop I do wish kids was listen to more music with instruments involved.

Yea, Finnish hiphop is big thing for teenagers... Its constantly on radio. And lemme tell you, it sounds like shait. I understand 1980's rap from states.. But the finnish stuff is just goddamn awful. And many of these artist who do so great always take the easiest path... No band, nothings real, even vocals are playback, no scratching, no nothing.. Just playback, a dj who tires to look like hes actually doing something and then the vocalist is lipsyncing. Or in some cases, is NOT lipsyncing, just making random aah! yo! and shit in between.
That's absolutely disgusting bullshit. I can name two rap artist who have even some decent lyrics. Most are just US balck gansta rap emulation in Finnish. Its terrible.
The good hiphop and electronic music here is underground stuff. None of the good stuff is on air.
Todays kids need a decent brainwash mindcontrol programming by old metal heads.
