Self-sufficiency is the state of not requiring any aid, support, or interaction, for survival; it is therefore a type of personal or collective autonomy. The term self-sufficiency is usually applied to varieties of sustainable living in which nothing is consumed outside of what is produced by the self-sufficient individuals. Examples of attempts at self-sufficiency include simple living, homesteading, off-the-grid, survivalism, DIY ethic and the back-to-the-land movement. Practices that enable or aid self-sufficiency include autonomous building, permaculture, sustainable agriculture, and renewable energy. The term is also applied to limited forms of self-sufficiency, for example growing one's own food or becoming economically independent of state subsidies. I'd like Diamond Geezer back, and the other posters who left back here to big one big happy family , that would make me happy
I'd also be happy if the split never happened Dawn but it's not fair to single Mikey ou for it. All of us here at the time were "partially" to blame. Either by active participation in the fall out or by inactivity.

Well I did marry her and stay with her for 16 years, so yeah says a lot for how coherent and consistent she is.

Thank you. May I remind everyone that DG, Frag and Novum decided to make the split, set up the forum TZ and then announced the split to SZ. In that order.

And the only damning quote I've seen was the one rejoicing at the prospect of everyone's death, to be fair. Which he softened, when asked about it, to not being bothered if he didn't see anyone again. I got the instinct that that's all he'd really meant in the first place.

I don't think he's a Nazi or an enemy.

For what it's worth, that's my opinion.
You can write in different styles for different socks, it's really not that difficult. It's also very easy to adopt a persona if nothing you're saying is sincere. I could easily have a sock account that put forward completely different views to my own, and you would never know it was me. I just obviously wouldn't waste my time with such childishness.

I find it very hard to believe that a completely new person would coincidentally use that picture, given the literally billions of possible avatars that anyone could use, but I suppose there are possible explanations for this.

But it doesn't really matter, I just don't like to see arguments which are avoidable.

So once again, back on topic:

I have admiration for anybody that is interested in self-sufficiency, survival in the wild and raising awareness about how to survive and help others survive natural disasters.

OTOH I posted this earlier but it got buried under insults, accusation and obfuscation:
mikey mikey wrote:
Just to say that if the SHTF and I end up in a ranch hidden somewhere in the mountains with a gun in my hands and the willingness to kill starving people and kids and know that while I am warming my buns while they freeze to death, and then in the morning say my prayers and pledge allegiance to the red white and blue, I shall know that I am in Hell.

Almost all of the Doom-mongers and Rapture Ready and Preppers-for SHTF display a disturbing level of anticipation for the terrible events they are getting ready for. They also seem to display a fundamental lack of concern, respect and empathy for their fellow human beings.
IME when challenged they respond with something like I received today "you will be the first to die" and "non-believer!" etcetera.

Even challenging their literature, or even just quoting their literature's more alarming sections is met with anger, accusations and even threats/prophecies of doom.

Looking back through the thread, I notice that Jane had pressed the "thank you" under this. Perhaps this is an indication that Jane also thinks that instead of 2012, it will be (yet again) just around the corner.

Or perhaps not. That will become clear soon enough.

And if indeed, it is indeed the case, then it will go a long way to explaining just why Jane called me a pig, told me to fuck off and wind my neck and indeed generally behave in such an aggressive manner.

Despite claims to be apolitical, the whole survivalist=militia thing is anything but apolitical. It might not be party political, but it the literature quoted in this thread and the website link is most certainly political.

I've already lived in the middle of nowhere, had a stove, backup wind genny with 240v invertor and my own private water supply, grown my own food and also kept some guinea fowl.
Despite all this, I never once thought the world was going to end, get shittier slowly by the day, yes.
Mad max scenario though? Hardly.

I've also never once thought that anyone could make it without the support of others. You could probably have a fairly self sufficient village but the lone bunker option is just a joke unless you're loaded to buy the land and resources for the task.
My stove alone cost £1200 let alone the rest of the kit (which I barely recouped in the time I spent there btw), I have a family to feed, if it was just myself then I would hardly worry about trying to 'dig in' somewhere in the first place, you stay on the move and graze what you can. When you don't have endless resources to hand then you turn nomadic until you find somewhere suitable and most people do indeed live in areas that are not suited to living without utilities in the first place.
I've heard all sorts of crazy ideas tbh and never seen much that was truly realistic or affordable long term unless you get lucky and I got lucky with the rent arrangement I had in Ireland, I can't see many landlords in the UK being happy with people paying low rent and getting acres of land included and help installing a stove etc.
Even Cathars long life tins must be going past their sell by date by now, all that money down the pisser...now whats he going to do?
Go out and buy more ffs lol? I mean ffs, does anyone really get this? If the end comes, it comes.
How you deal with it will depend mostly on willpower, ruthlessness and common sense, not on bear grylls bullshit or cans of beans.
You can forget hollywood.
You need a varied diet, warmth/shelter, CLEAN water and you'd need it long term and if its not just yourself then its a monumental task.
The exception is if you're one of these sun gazing 'breathe-airians' or whatever the fuck, lol.
