Self-sufficiency is the state of not requiring any aid, support, or interaction, for survival; it is therefore a type of personal or collective autonomy. The term self-sufficiency is usually applied to varieties of sustainable living in which nothing is consumed outside of what is produced by the self-sufficient individuals. Examples of attempts at self-sufficiency include simple living, homesteading, off-the-grid, survivalism, DIY ethic and the back-to-the-land movement. Practices that enable or aid self-sufficiency include autonomous building, permaculture, sustainable agriculture, and renewable energy. The term is also applied to limited forms of self-sufficiency, for example growing one's own food or becoming economically independent of state subsidies. I suppose that could be construed as a reason for not liking women though tbf there are plenty that have had failed relationships that don't hate women. Myself included. It could never be considered as a reason for a misanthropic world view though could it.
Go on, tell me why you really opted to hate people. Pretty please :)

I think people decide for themselves what they're interested in. I'm not disinterested myself, but I think you need time on your hands to study & practice for such eventualities. Between working & looking after a family, I can only be bothered doing a bit of larking about when I have free time at the minute.

At the risk of asking for something you may already have provided that I've overlooked, are there any good books on the subject?

Btw, you seem personable enough. I doubt you'd really be overjoyed at our demise.
there are quite a lot of books on the subject, Amazon is good, just type in prepper books or survival books, try this one: "How to survive the end of the world as we know it" by James Wesley Rawles. isbn no 978-0-141-04933-5 not sure of the current price, my copy cost £6.89 a year ago. this will give you the basics and the background.

I don't think I hate EVERYBODY, there are people I really do like, actually I do have friends I have known for over 30 years, its just "the general public" I don't like enmasse, they are objectionable, some have filthy habits and I just don't like being anywhere near them, as a race I would be glad to see the back of them even if there are some people I might actually miss, that isn't to say I couldn't happily live without seeing another human being cos I could.

You, I, your wife and your friends are the general public.
Don't get me wrong, I loathe going into town and being confronted by folk who have their heads up their arses. But as I said before, those folk are playing out a set of thought forms that they haven't realised are there yet. They don't understand what they are doing when they push past you to get to the checkout first or fail to give up their seat on the bus to an oldie. They are blind to their own crapness. But their crapness isn't an absolute. We all evolve as we go. Given the right circumstances, those folk may well have an epiphany.
Don't get me wrong, some are just wrong uns and I'd be all for them being given the Isle of Wight to go and bug Icke on but they are very much the minority. The majority are just misguided and have adopted some weird values. Heck it isn't even the majority. I meet plenty of 'good' folk whose hearts and minds are sound.

Which is ofc absolutely fine. But that stops a long way short of misanthropy and wanting to be "the last man standing".
I'm starting to think you're not quite as big a misanthrope as you'd have us believe :)

WRONG Andy, I just don't DO people, all this bollox that is spouted about humans being "social animals", well this one AINT, I was brought up as an only child and I am happy with my own company, I prefer animals especially dogs to any so called human being.

A twisted way of saying that basically, yes you don't give a shit but don't want to openly say it.
Cognitive dissonance is holding two opposing views at the same time, which is what you are trying to do by using twisted words to hide true intent.
Politicians do it all the time ;)

At least you're hedging your bets here, Cathar (or pee tube as he named himself in his latest incarnation) used to try and name the day, then the next day and then the next day and then the next day and then the next day and then the next day...you get the idea.
By now ofc he's had several hundred epic doom prediction failures and looks like a complete tit.

Which you will in 2016, I've marked it on my calendar now as take the piss out of lonewolf day :D

So, I know you said you'll be long gone if tshtf. I guess you have a bolt hole in mind. If you were in your bolt hole and a family came by, bearing the odd injury and with little provisions. What would you do?
