Otherwise it gets confusing as to why they exist at all.

Good idea.

I'd say racism comes under the MUST category personally. For obvious reasons.

I HATE racism. I hate all isms, tbh., but racism is the ultimate crass - and so stupid too: what's it meant to achive... because it doesn't!

I remember standing in a bus stop in London once, behind this kid of about 12 or so, a little mixed-race boy; when these fekkin yobs in their 20s came along and started calling him names - you know the ones; and standing there pointing and laughing at him. I got into a real frenzied slanging match with those busturds, and then so did others passing by.

And what had they achieved, except to make a little boy feel terrified and really bad about himself? :( He was trembling and trying not to cry, for appearance sake, and all I could really do was try to tell him, "I hope you don't think we all think that way".

All isms are shite, but racism should be an OUTTA HERE first time out of the trap!

Good post Cantata

Tbh any asshole who resorts to racism, is weak!

I and others reported those comments. Agreement was found that he should be banned.
Sod then socked up, spammed and got banned again.
Then on the day that Rodney King died, sod returned as sodneyking.........

Many of us have chatted to sod in chat and found it an ok experience. I've found several of his comments very funny. I've said both to sod and to the forum that I'd like him back IF he showed that he realised his own repsonsibility and showed respect to others.
As yet I don't think sod has contacted the admin team to discuss this at all, so this is a pretty pointless thread tbh.
In the absence of sod having contacted the admin, I vote NO, which is a shame because I think I'd quite like the real sod.
Exactly.

This is not a debate we should be having, it's one Sod should be having with himself and then deciding if he wants to approach the group for re-acceptance.

Until then there's nothing to discuss.

He also had perfect opportunity to apologise to the person he offended in chat a few times and chose instead to mock the situation. I can't speak for this person but I'm willing to guess he won't be entirely thrilled about this.

Sod would need to eat a huge piece of humble pie and I seriously doubt that's going to happen.

Yes, I'd forgotten about that but I was there at least once and I can vouch for that being what took place. I seem to remember asking sod to take the opportunity to get the bad blood cleansed.....

So Sod!!! The ball is firmly in your court as far as I'm concerned.

This raises an interesting point, what does the forum mean by banned?

Is it a lifetime ban? Which will end up with us being awash with socks in time.

Is it temporary? If so for how long.

Personally I think a ban should be for a fixed period, at the end of which the person can apply to have it lifted rather than just automatically reactivating accounts.

it's good to get an issue like this on the go it's good for us as a community & good for us as individuals.

With that in mind though, is this more about You? Us? or Sod?

You decide ;)

Good stuff folk's, there's certainly more to think about/concider than meets they eye.

Global mods (green) have that option...to make a temp ban or perma ban, instantly, from the front end.

From the back end there are the other options available...voluntarily inactive, deleted etc. To do those, I have to log out and use a seperate account to go out back (dgadmin)...and tbh I'd rather not fuck about back there unless I really have to...its more Frog and Novum's dept than mine.

Non-global mods (blue) cannot ban from the front end like a global mod can.

Which brings me to a subject we have been discussing in admin. Psketti going green, so that she can remove someone if it really needs to be done when the other 3 of us aren't around. We think there is a need for her to be able to do this. Thoughts on that everyone?

I am defo one of those that think of racism along with a few other things such as threats of violence, homophobia and other such delightful qualities are the line that I draw between positive contributions and an unpleasant experience. If I wanted to talk to the sorts of people that have such opinions about those subjects there are a plethora of places I can go to in order to do so. I choose not to and thus far people have been in agreement about where the line should be drawn as to what is and is not acceptable.

I am also not one for fuzzy boundaries - I am of the belief that lines are drawn for a reason and so long as there is choice available - which on the internet there is - those lines should be respected. Those unable to respect the very few rules and the community here can find somewhere else that suits - rather than the community as a whole having to change their rules to suit one or two individuals

We either have firm boundaries that apply equally to everyone - or we end up with inequality as happened elsewhere.
Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known.

Hey Run, I think you would probably feel otherwise if you'd be in my situation....

To be honest, I quite hate to be on the recieving end of Sods racist verbal bile. I'm not used to get that type of shit thrown at my face. Sod better keep out of here! I can forgive his idiocy, tbh, but I seriously doubt he would be cleaning his act a single bit.

So I say keep that fukwit out of here!
