Ok, let's recap....

A number of people have complained about doom threads, yesterday one of these complaints was directed at me asking what I intended to do as a moderator. I pointed out I am not a mod as I do not moderate and deflected the issue back to the forum via this thread. The 'general consensus', of which you were one, was to have a megathread, I made one in Vent. There were some objections to it being in Vent, of which one was yours if I understood correctly, so I moved it temporarily, as stated (yet disbelieved by you), as there was/is far from a 'general consensus' on where it belongs and Dreadnaught declined to state where he would like it to go.

Now, to recap on your objection...it's in Have a Laugh?
I can move it every day to one of the suggested destinations until a conclusive decision is reached if that'll help.

the fact that we are having this thread at all is proof enough that there is at least transparency in how moderation works. If a mod/mods were asked to 'do' something about a series of threads - something was done and it was put to the community whether what was done was appropriate or should be modified. Mods are often between a rock and a hard place do they respond immediately to something another member has brought up and risk being accused of being 'heavy handed'? or do they start a thread a hope for some sort of consensus leaving those who brought up the issue in the first place to get increasingly irritated by what it was that was irritating them in the first place? this appears to have been a compromise that people are using as an excuse to drag up stuff again. If it had been sketts who had taken the action I am not sure that she would have received the same response.

My view is that we ask the poster in question to use one thread for doom predictions and moderate accordingly should they not stick to the mega thread which should be in general imho.

In a perfect world this place would be fluid with everyone taking responsibility for their posts, their content and their tone. People would treat each other with respect and we could use consensus as a tool to reach decisions. But as with every other solution put forward to the worlds problems the change has got to come from the people - people need to want - of their own volition - to be the change. Until such a time compromises will need to be made. Its that old joke - how many psychiatrists does it take to change a lightbulb?

I sincerely hope that the old grudges and animosity can be cleared once and for all.

Lastly I object strongly to the name calling in this thread title - it is unnecessary and utterly disrespectful.

Personally I think oi was the object of name calling on this thread. Cathatar has his old gaff back at DIF, btw so this is all very theoretical. I share thoraue's concern that people are using this as an excuse to drag up stuff again.

moderations pretty easy here, i banned only 8 people in the last few days and had to scroll through about 12 of dogsmilks private messages out of curiosity. good times.
oi catches hell for having a thought or doing something moderatey almost every time. and every time it is blown out of proportion and we have a 20 page thread about it. i think people like to complain.

with that said, im moving every thread to complaints from here on. every post and thread will be moved to megathread:complaints except youtubes of cats. but if you don't like it you will be banned and your isp called and you will be told on for breaking internet rules

Without going into specifics and turning this post into an 'X' is awesome ego fest - I have so much respect for posters here. People who have honoured their commitments despite fundamental differences. People who have been thrown a fuck load of abuse but stay and attempt to get to the bottom of it. Yes I dragged stuff up again. I dragged up my continued dislike of top down moderation....I would have said the same to sket or any mod who had started a thread asking for opinions and then gone ahead and done what they wanted (have a laugh section???) before the members had reached any kind of agreement..

Since the mods have combined all the threads there is no way to easily follow the different doom sources....so I won't be posting here much except when the time draws near for Italy's doom ,etc...first 10 days in May is my best guess...

@knob - I do understand where you are coming from and you have been utterly consistent in your opinion about moderation. In this instance it appeared as if your objection was more about the moderator then the moderation - If I read stuff wrongly apologies.

@dreadnaught - name calling whomever does it is not nice

I struggle to empathise with dubs position because I've never been as deeply scared by a moderator on a chat board as he apparently has.

My thoughts are with him etc but if a chat board is beings run by dicks historically I've just moved on.

Of course the only way to moderate without error is to never take on the position but tut from the sidelines when someone doesn't do something the way you would have done it. Which will never happen because you would never put yourself in that position to be criticised anyway.

If this keeps up may I suggest we change the title to Sanctimonious Zone?
