Yes the bans/deletions action as soon as they're keyed through, so they're not the cause of the crashes - not sure if they happen as a result of some kind of back up being initiated.

I agree, I think it's server overload, also as I keep posting, it does occur every night a few miniutes after midnight too, I believe they are either pausing the traffic whilst a software cleaning tool is doing a scan, or it's when the mods are have a powwow, so they need to pause the webpage for then.
I know it happens at other times too, that would be server overload I guess, in addition to these other times they do have the set time of shortly after midnight each night.

I'm worried that making so many posts about this topic is going to cause my biological server to go all guru too...

I believe the guru meditation message appears whilst the server is backing up each night. It shouldn't, but then the webmaster has been a little preoccupied funneling money out of TPV setting up TPV lately.
