I vaguely remember that it's something to do with triggering a back-up, and they do it at midnight, because they think it's the least inconvenient time for the Brits, because the majority of posters are (or were) in the UK.

There used to be a 'Mod-chat' section, only visible to mods & 'admin', and a separate admin section, for a higher level of secrecy that the mod's weren't privy to. That was prior to all these different titles they seem to have now.

Several of the 'administrators' (i.e. mods but with more power) showed me screen-shots from the admin thread during the time that Daisy was trying to persuade me to resign, which is how I know that the only 2 who wanted rid were Daisy & Krakhead (and Wilderbeest who'd resigned in a strop).

So they have pow-wows constantly at different levels that the members can't see.

this sounds juicy. I didn't realise you used to mod the DIF (sorry if I caused you any trouble! :p ). When abouts did you leave? What sort of things were discussed mod-side?
