No. Some people need help, others cooperate and yet others demand servitude.

Nope. Some people are selfish, some are altruistic but in general humans are somewhere in between. Those lacking any empathy will tell that we're all cunts to cover up for the fact that they're a cunt. Then they tell that greed is good.

Yes it is. You have agreed with everything I have said with the addition of one word: "some".

Fact is, we don't live in a world were when I've finished taking a shit, I can summon a droid to come and wipe my arse. We don't live in a world were we don't rely on the services of others. If we did, then great, but we don't.

There isn't a single person here who doesn't require the services of another. Those PEOPLE (not robots) that keep infrastructure going so we can continue to llive our lives.

Work wouldn't be required if EVERYTHING was done by droids, but that isn't the world we live in so right now that argument is not applicable. In the here and now, jobs are required for most people if you want to maintain your standard of living.

No, I really haven't, I assure you.

You see, I don't agree with notions that sate that we are all lazy, selfish and need to be put to work.

If I said to my best friend "you' Mum is lazy, selfish and need to be put to work" he'd lamp me.

And he'd be right to do so.

G'day SilvaRizla.

Have you heard about 'freeware' applications?

How about Linux?

There are always exceptions to the rule, also special cases in times of tragedy. Your example is one project with thousands of volunteers. I don't see many fencing companies putting up free fences, nor gardeners doing free gardening. Nor do I see tailors offering free suits day in day out. I could go on and on and on.

On the whole, a ridiculous notion.

Because you "... don't see ...", or don't believe, doesn't mean that it isn't possible, or even happening somewhere right now.

I never said that you said that.

I just showed that if you take the "people are selfish and lazy" generalisation and make it personal "your mum is selfish and lazy" then the inherent misanthropy of the assumption is revealed.

You see, it is easy to think of "people" - the faceless crowd- as a bunch of idle thoughtless bastards, but it is not so easy to think that about each individual that you know personally.

Do you understand?

And I have a job teaching because I love teaching. If I were a billionaire, I'd still do it.

Work can be defined as offering your services in exchange for the service of another.

You don't believe that work is needed, so leave the system we live in and start afresh. What's stopping you? You don't need the service of others so you don't need investment (the service of another).

You don't need our current system nor any of its benefits. Put your money where your mouth is.

Most menial tasks can be automated, many jobs can be eliminated by design and are being done so right now, robots are replacing human labour all over the world, see WUB's post about Google and Foxconn.
Robots are tax deductible so not only do they cost no wages they have asset return value and reduce the tax bill.
Supermarket tills are being automated, call centres automated, petrol pumps automated and on and on and ariston :)
Tell me again what the incentive here is to keep workers on.

Working for free has a name, slavery. You want to become a slave and the rest to join you in slavery, which makes me suspect you are at it and actually are out to con people and you are a slave master.
