Thanks for posting that vid WUB :) I'll watch them all.

Planned obsolescence...it's like the way HD TV's are built to last 2, 3, 4 years. Years ago, a television would last you 20 years or something. And there's seems to be so many TV's as well. In the catalogue there's pages and pages of tellies. Catalogues seem to be getting thicker as well. They have to keep the wheels turning, have to keep us striving for the "better" telly, the bigger and "better" car. It's crazy.

I'll work on some goals. You're right, it will change my world. I'm breaking the "entertainment" cycle I've been stuck in for 21 years. The less distractions I have, the more attention I'm starting to pay to everything. It's not easy though :D I've had quite a few "moments" these past couple of years :chuckle: It's probably my brain rewiring itself or something :chuckle:

I know/understand what you're talking about but I don't get the empty feeling. I get a feeling of "this wont last forever"; "it's going to change"; "this may be the last time I see this or do this" feeling a lot. Shopping centers normally result in a bombardment of negative energy that just radiates off other people, or a lot of self absorbed energy which just puts me in a bad mood almost instantly...sometimes sad feelings seem to hit me out of nowhere in public. It's rare that I am out and about and get a happy feeling, or a content feeling...normally when those hit I am off in the boonies with not another soul for miles.

Some people say it has a lot to do with empathic nature, you're picking up on other beings feelings and emotions (be that human, animal, or just nature itself). Nothing to worry your rattling on over, it's a good thing! Embrace it, even if its hard sometimes...and do yourself a favor once in a while, turn it off or ignore it too as too much can get to you after a while (in my opinion at least). :)

I know what you're talking about too, but I think it is an internal state rather than something that's caused by external factors.

I live in a forest, I am sitting here right now in my back room and there is beautiful view of a big hill cloaked in forest. That doesn't stop me from having extreme bouts of emptiness though. Although, when I get out there it's usually another matter. The weather has been shite this year and going out for walks in the forest isn't as appealing as it would be if there was some warm sunny weather.

I know what you're talking about with the shopping centres. These days I'm just an eccentric hermit lady tbh. I work from home over the internet, do all my shopping online and only venture out occasionally to visit friends :emb: Maybe I need to get out and be more sociable, but tbh I have got too used to being in my comfort zone and as I get older I'm finding that I enjoy my own company more and more.

If you guys lived near me I would be out annoying you all the time :D

Sounds perfect to me. I long to be as far as possible from the 'busy' people and cars etc. Any room for a two man tent in this forest of yours? :D :D :D

My biggest problem is alcohol. (I'm not an alcoholic or anything) What I mean is, in normal social situations I manage to keep a lid on my 'alternative' view of the world, the problems often start when I have more than two or three beers (which I try to avoid). The alcohol starts to slowly eat away at that lid, and if the wrong topic comes up, my 'conspiracy nonsense' starts coming out. Normally met with a universal rolling of eyes and an unspoken 'oh here we bloody well go again, he's started with the lunatic stuff'...

Nausea (French: La Nausée) is an epistolary novel by the existentialist philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre, which was published in 1938 and written while he was teaching at the lycée of Le Havre. It is Sartre's first novel[1] and, in his opinion, one of his best works.[2]

The novel takes place in 'Bouville', a town similar to Le Havre and concerns a dejected historian, who becomes convinced that inanimate objects and situations encroach on his ability to define himself, on his intellectual and spiritual freedom, evoking in the protagonist a sense of nausea.

French writer Simone de Beauvoir, Sartre's lifelong partner, claims that La Nausée grants consciousness a remarkable independence and gives reality the full weight of its sense.[3]

In a prison cell one can become aware of his/her true self, but the 5 sense "reality" is that you are in a cage. You can train your mind to cope with it and to accept it to an extent, I would say that it is not "wrong" to try to free ourselves in the 3d experience, as long as we are aware of the true self.

I kind of get that "this won't last forever" feeling too. I suppose that's where the loss/grief feeling I get comes into it. Not that I'd be sad to see shopping centres and the llikes go :D I just feel a sense of loss when I'm out and about...it can feel dreamlike sometimes, like the world around me is hollow, illusory. It's pretty hard to properly describe tbh.

I think I'm fairly empathic, so it's probably that as well like you say :)

I'd say it was a bit of both, internal and external. The concrete jungle has to have an effect on the human mind and spirit. In the city we're removed from nature, and we are natural beings. Like I said though, sometimes it's okay, I get the buzz, the energy of the crowd, the hustle and bustle. Sometimes the energy of the city is good. More often than not though it's a lonely place for me.
I'll have to get out into nature for a bit and see if I still feel the emptiness.
If I lived where you live Lesley I'd be out and up that hill and into those trees every day! :D Although I know what you mean about the weather being crap, although I generally don't mind the rain...I like being rained on :D

The urge to constantly go shopping to purchase unnecessary items is an addiction IMO. Like any addiction, we are trying to fill a void (an emptiness). Ok I dont like Russell Brand, but I once heard if say that all addictions are our way of filling the void in our soul, and that the void is our SUBCONSCIOUS longing to be at one with god/everything..

Now that its cold here in North East America and i cant just put on shorts and a t shirt and go outside and take long walks by the streams and nature trails my quality of life is much lower and i feel depressed.

I don't enjoy nature once the leaves fall off the trees and everything is not green anymore.

Walking around with a coat, hat and gloves is just not the same...imo
