All known living things emit an electromagnetic bio-energy field, it's measurable. Spiritual/religious sects refer to this energetic field as the 'aura' or 'chi' (etc). Allegedly, It's thought that 'psychic vampires' are people who have some how had their natural bio-energetic pathways disrupted, though it's not clear as to how exactly. They're said to have adapted to this disorder by taking the energy needed from others. Many are thought to be unaware of this on a conscious level, while some claim to be aware of it. It's said that those in control of this take what they need, while those not aware of it can be dangerous to others.

A lot of it is equated to standoffish people who seem to get energized when they intimidate others, leaving those they've belittled feeling physically drained. It could be purely psychological, though I don't know of any studies done to prove one way or another. For the most part it's written off by the facets of academia as bunk. Having had a few experiences with people like that myself, I can't be certain it is.

I don't think they qualify as Psychic Vampires but I've often referred to extroverts as "energy vampires". They can really be draining to be around!
