I believe in the term energy vampires, and to be able to avoid these type individuals is a skill.

Have you ever noticed that some people around you in your daily life just put out bad vibrations in your opinion of them, and just have some negative energy you feel emitting from them, in your opinion.
And for no real apparent reason they just seem irritating to you, just their physical presence, and if or when you speak to them it's like every opinion you have about anything they have the opposite one.

Have we actually picked up on this about them before actual communication?

Are we able to sense this without knowing it about others, and is this a physic ability?

I tend not to feel them as "bad". But I've learned to watch out for the types who "tout for pity" or who "coerce and control with guilt".

Pity and Guilt are two biggies to avoid.

I've met people before who don't seem to have anything wrong with them and are very popular, yet I get a gut reaction and really take an instant dislike to them. Often there's no concrete reason for the way I feel. Is this the sort of thing you mean?

I also get vibes from people... Some just draw the energy out of me.. Or like that it feels like. Even when everything's ok on the outside, company of certain people makes me exhausted and moody, I try to avoid them. This type of people is surprisingly common, that's the main reason I stay out of public areas as much as possible.

Supermarkets and buses are few of the worst places, there's always somebody lurking.

I've come across this lately and in the not too distant past.

I've been told.....

Don't question me....it will make me angry.
Don't do such and such, because it will make me depressed.
I can't function if you make me feel bad.
Watch what you say to me
Don't behave angrily towards me or I wont speak to you.

I could go on, but I'm sure you get the picture.
This type of behaviour leaves you without a voice and yes, is all about control.

Yes - there are the types of people who want to draw you into their, often self-created, dramas. But there's the other kind too imo, who, for no logical reason you can identify, just make you feel disgruntled and tired.

Pheony, if that was occuring in a romatic relationship, or in a family it would come under the heading of verbal/emotional abuse.

The archetype of the vampire has existed in all cultures throughout history. It is a popular symbol in myth, films and literature. The prevalence of the vampire myth is based on the fact that Vampires DO exist. They are men and women who live off of others psychic energy.

Yes, lesley this was in a so called romantic relationship.

Even down to no sex..unless it was exactly the way this person wanted it. I'm not a push over, hence no sex for a long time.

You're right it is abuse....The pity one, was used fairly recently...I saw it for what it is...control.

Although we can see / feel that something is not right and is not making us feel good, especially about ourselves, It sometimes takes time to realise exactly what is going on.

Living with a borderline sociopath is good training :chuckle:

I get on with my mum...somehow, I get on with her, I'm quite laid back and can soak a lot of crap up. I cleaned the kitchen earlier on and when she got up she was looking around pulling faces  She said "what exactly have you done? it doesn't look like you've done anything". Naturally I got pissed off, then it was "is there something wrong? You sound pissed off". I can see the funny side though :chuckle:

Once I'd cleaned the kitchen more to her "standard" she was as nice as pie. She's at her nicest when you're doing shit for her. Oh well, it is what it is.

Sometimes it's easy to see, sometimes not. some people are experts at their manipulation of others. It takes an ongoing pattern to realise to what extent this is happening and it's effect on your life.

I think I'm quite good at spotting it. I think if you live with a person, and you often don't feel good, or you're thinking about things they've said all the time and worrying about things they've said, then you start changing your behaviour and things you say as a result of that, walking on egg shells kind of thing, appeasement...then it's safe to say that you're living with one of these people, sociopath or borderline, control freaks, etc.

I shouldn't be so sort of cocky about it actually, my mum is one thing, a relationship is another. Different emotions involved, more subtle, etc. I've never experienced a relationship like that. Until I've experienced it myself I should keep my gob shut :emb: I hope I never do experience it.

I know just what you mean! I don't know if it's intuition or what, but sometimes you just get that "feeling" off of people. I feel like, for the most part, I can read people pretty well. I don't know if it's an actual vibe they are putting off or if it's subtle body language and facial expressions that clue me in.

Growing up, I feel I was taught to ignore my intuition. Like, "Oh, I'm just being judgemental or paranoid." I'm not saying it's okay to be judgemental but when you get a bad vibe off someone, you should pay close attention to that feeling. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I ignored those red flags waving in my face, alarms going off...I ended up in some very frightening situations because of my self doubt.

Oh, and what Hexhammer said about the supermarket; I can totally identify! I think that's why I'm such a hermit sometimes. Unlike most women, I loathe shopping. On the rare occasion I go to the mall, I'm in and out as quickly as possible. I feel this really stressful energy take over me...people, noise...it's consumer chaos! :nilly: :umm: :aargh:

Yes, I feel very drained in certain situations and around certain people.
Until lately I felt this way around a certain person..I didn't want to do anything, felt bullied into doing things that made them happy and started to question what the hell I was doing. The red flag was there...and if I'm being totally honest...right from the beginning.

Fuck...This person even told me that they despised jealousy and had to restrain two ex's who were extreme in their jealousy...in the process... breaking the leg of one and the arm of another as they tried to attack him. This to me, whether true or false told me,
Don't ever piss me off or question me as it will be seen as jealousy and will have to be dealt with accordingly.

To answer the OP -- yes, we all do. We all have the ability to read other people's energy, regardless if you are aware of it or not. I can sometimes be what's best described as bombarded by people's energy.... now more than ever. These are weird times.

Wow, that is really fucked up and I believe you are dead on to take it as a warning. Manipulators have a way of indirectly getting their message across to you. I've even had them say something to other people in my presence that I knew was directed at me. And that isn't paranoia or I would think that about everyone all the time.

I must admit, in romantic situations, I tend to have the blinders on. The red flags are always there in the very beginning but the heart obscures our vision. I can even look back and remember noticing the red flags and deliberately ignoring them. Then I want to kick myself in the ass for being such a sucker! Ah well, I guess we learn from our mistakes(or keep repeating them :emb: ).

I think you have to know an emotional vampire, and they you. There has to be some sort of relationship; family, co-worker, friend of a friend. You can sometimes pick up on a controlling person right away, but they usually take a while to sink into you. They just need to suck something out of you, hence the term "vampire". It's something missing in their own lives, their own being. They're unhappy, they in turn try to make you unhappy, and when they do, it's like a little "fix" for them. A lot of them tend to "advocate", not really converse, but just say things for the sake of it.

Having had a couple of relationships with abusive partners, I wouldn't necessarily say they were vampires. The term wanker would probably be more fitting. Not all wankers are emotional/energy vampires and not all vampires are wankers, but that's just mho.

A vampire can be very charming. They need to be; otherwise they would be pissing on their own bonfire and have nobody to feed off. These are the worst kind, they use stealth and appear so nice and reasonable that you start to berate yourself for not feeling good around them.
