Well if they're abusive and can't treat people with respect, then boot them out.
A bit of trolling is one thing but being outright nasty to people is another.

What is it with some new members here wanting to test the ban waters? We're all extremely fair here and give people a chance to turn things around, but we don't take any shit either.

What about "right across the site" to save any confusion.

Which to be honest I assumed would be the case anyway.

Yep. Right across the site.

That includes the 'public' area in blast Chat. Not being a logged in member doesn't mean the rules don't apply in there either.

(Could be a difficult one to enforce in the Blast Chat area unfortunately, as anyone can instantly get in...any suggestions folks?)

@ dubs. It hadn't really been clarified amongst us whether the exact same standards of behaviour expected on the forum applied to the chatrooms too, as previous to last night these issues hadn't arisen and there was no need. But now everyone knows where they stand, so hopefully all good. :)

I suppose the most affective way is to ignore them?

They were pushing buttons for pushing buttons sake , and started to type in capaital letters when we carried on a conversation and ignored them

Somebody maliciously lips off in blast chat, they get given a chance to apologise and calm down.
They don't take that chance or continue? You boot them.
They come back in under a different moniker and start again? Boot them again. and again, and again, till the message sinks in.

Problem with policing Blast Chat is that anyone can come in repeatedly and post absolutely anything, and if none of us mods/admin are about it could stay up in public view for hours. Then its removed, and the culprit/s just rinse & repeat ad infinitum.

At least with the Fast Chat rooms only logged in members can access, so if anyone gets really out of order in there we can just remove them from the site permanently.

There is an arguable case here for restricting all chatroom access to logged in members only imo. Thoughts on that folks?

well I would think restricting to logged on members would make sense.

I know the people in question last night had joined the site though?

It's a hard one diamond , but can I just say you handled the wholething very well last night

Yep. So if they do it again, and are banned from the site as a consequence, then they can't access Fast Chat from then on, they're out for good.

With the Blast Chat foyer, anyone booted can repeatedly return...there's no way of preventing it as things now stand unfortunately dawn.

fook me a girl goes afk for a while for personal reasons and comes back to find that some people still cannot get that being respectful of others is one of the building blocks for moving forward and a pleasant place to brainstorm, discuss, ruminate and have a few giggles.

youngturkrevolution.wordpress.com/2012/0...lls-and-gary-barlow/

i read this yesterday - and think it is really relevant to the way in which we interact with each other - it really made me think about the impact of what we write online and the way in which we do so can affect others. The basic lack of respect, the lack of forethought or care when saying things 'cos its freedom of speech innit' - the throwing out of the most outrageous and ill thought out opinions without a care for those who may or may not read them because ofc my opinion and right to say it is more important then the feelings or situation someone else is going through. we sit and talk about the 'elites' lacking humanity and empathy and then give spectacular displays of exactly that.

sad sick and selfish.

The rules are here in an attempt to stop anyone from feeling marginalised or excluded from here - frankly if you feel marginalised or excluded because we wont pander to your bigotry, ignorance and inability to show respect and forethought then jog on.

The rules should apply in equal measure to the chat rooms as they do the forums. it means more work for the mod team so apologies as you do plenty already - and that plenty is done really well - but those be the thoughts of me.
Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known.

And I bloody missed it all! Typical! :D

I thought people had been very patient with those two muppets yesterday, and frankly, I was ready to dish out a tongue-lashing today, had they given any cause. They were given ample opportunity to just settle down & join in, so clearly that was never their intention.

Exclusion's the only sensible response.

If others see that clowns like that can cause genuine upset, some will take advantage, and come here just to bait for sport. So please don't give them the satisfaction of thinking they can disrupt our contentment. Screw them!

In toby's case at least it was a bit more serious. Several hours of out-and-out abuse of almost everyone in the chatroom (including a touch of homophobia at one point), and threats to bring it all onto the forum if I didn't have the balls to ban him on the spot was how I remember it.
