I was very saddened by what happened last night. I don't think people here should be making apologies for themselves, in fact, as what transpired was quite fair considering, I think.
It has to be reiterated that we have not really had to deal with this sort of behaviour before, thankfully. This was evidenced in some members responses to what was happening last night. Again, nothing to apologise for imo.
Whether or not this was the intention of those involved, nobody can really say. What I can say though, and I speak for myself entirely here, and nobody else, is that I do not come here to listen to tripe like that. I have left other forums because I had to listen to tripe like that.
It was my understanding, that we have certain rules in place here, agreed by us all. When a new member signs up here, those rules ought really to be taken into consideration, as well as the consequences of breaching those rules. This is what happened last night, as far as I can see.
I appreciate that everybody has freedom of speech, but again, we did all agree to adhere to those rules. I don't see why certain members should play fair while others are allowed to do as they please. If I recall correctly, this was a gripe that many members had with another forum. As was constantly reiterated in chat last night, it is all about respect. What happened was not respectful to anyone there or any of the members who were not present.
I am unable to comprehend why individual members, or even a 'group' of members would want to come to a forum and do nothing but put down the way it is run and abuse other members. For me, that is not and has never been what this place is about. If you don't like the way a forum is going, then simply stop visiting.
Imo, if you breach the forum rules, you're gone, though of course, you can always sign back up under a different name if you really miss us all that much.
I have enjoyed watching this forum grow from the beginning and would be very sad to see it go the way of other places, all in the name of "free speech". As has been said before, by many wiser than me, "free speech also comes with responsibility", very little of which was shown to be evident last night.
I'm not feeling particularly great about things lately. I come here for a laugh and because I have made some good friends here. This is not a threat or a tantrum by any means, but I will not continue to do so if I have to witness behaviour like a did last night on a regular basis.
It is not fair on the people it was aimed at and it is not fair on all the members, admin and mods here who have worked so hard to make the place what it is.
If that makes me 'cliquey', then so fucking be it.
