I lived in Berlin before the wall came down and in the Eastern sector nothing much had changed since the war. Same ol' same ol', So its a little fresher in my mind. The US is now the new Nazi/Stasi police state....if not worse. History repeating itself again.
Berlin is an amazing place these days,never seen a city with so much building work and new development going on.Its very vibrant now,got a great buzz to it.I'm more used to Frankfurt am Maine,very boring and sterlised.

In the West it was like that then - as you say, a buzz. Nightlife (24 hour really) was amazing. But going back to the East was like going back in time to some post-war black and white spy film. Very oppressive and drab.West Berlin was essentially an Island of freedem surrounded by the Stasi state. And every corridor out was a wake up to totalitarianism....endless request to show papers and documents and cameras everywhere. Shudder. I see it happening in the West now - all under the excuse of "Terrorists"

Yeah I hear you W.H,i hate travel and changing money now in Europe its all paperwork and nasty stares from officialdom,more like an Orwellian nightmare every day.The phoney "War on Terror" policy is in full choking swing.God help us all.

Thanks Gilly, it's been pretty spring like here this week, being out and about has been a real pleasure - daffodils & blossom - almost kidded myself Tuesday lunchtime that I may have caught a tan I could actually feel warmth on my face for the first time in 2014!
& I always sleep with the window open so birdsong has woke me up before my alarm has gone off the last two days... :flower:

Yes, I noticed that one f my rose bushes has buds starting to open. It's one I planted very early last year, when I was impatient for spring to start properly, but I'm glad I did because it's only really stopped flowering for a couple of months. :)
