Is it snobby to be contemptuous of the folk who wander around shops in their grotty, pyjamas? If so, I'm guilty!

The first time I saw this was about 22 years ago when I was running a couple of Victoria Wine branches, & a young woman climbed out of a taxi & strolled into one in a nightie & slippers for cig's & wine at about 4pm one winter' afternoon. I was a surprised, and innocently asked her if she was going to a fancy dress party. This apparently annoyed her, so diplomacy forbade me from asking if she wore jeans & a duffle-coat to bed. :umm:

I keep hearing about this, but have never actually seen it with my own eyes. The town down the road could be considered somewhat rough and ready, and I don't even see PJ clad shoppers there. But, yes, I might have to hoist my bosom! :chuckle: I know people who stay in their PJ's when they take the kids to school. But they just open the car door, chuck the kids out and quickly drive off. Nobody really sees them, so it's not the same. :(

I'll keep an eye out for PJ shoppers, because my local town should be a prime location, in theory. Although, my partner's sister went to Tesco in her PJ's by accident just after she had a baby. :chuckle:

I can be a bit of a snob...does it make me a bad person?...I don't think so and if anyone else thinks it does....I really couldn't give a damn.

That statement goes well with your avatar. :)

As in Hyacinth Bucket type snobbery? :D

I think most SZ members are inverted snobs. No offence meant btw.

No offence taken here, though I will deny the accusation. :)

I'm from the Britwell estate in Slough - spit and sawdust tenements, lots of urchins and shops with the words 'pound & bargain' in the title. We were there for people to be snobby about. :)

What is the exact definition of a snob or snobbery? I am struggling to find one on the internet.

I guess it's quite difficult to define really,It's all down to an individuals interpretation.Being snobby for oneself is better than being snobby towards another person or people?
Example someone is offered various types of food by someone else and they turn it down and are considered a snob by the person offering the food. The person turning the food down might have educated themselves to understand what a good diet is ect (not me by the way lol.)

Not wanting to buy cheap clothes as you know they will not last as long as more expensive clothes (price range within reason) is that snobbery?

Judging another person when the persons actions or life style might not be their choice and does not impact on anybody else is just being a twat.

Anybody fancy a bag of space raiders? :hahano:
