@Dogsmilk, I agree with you that trying to do something locally is the best way forward, and I don't think people should give up trying to make the world a slightly better place, I just think that it's better to focus on the process than the outcomes. I find it hard to do this any more because I'm not convinced that anything I've ever said or done has ever made a significant difference to anything or anyone. It's quite depressing for me to see the 'welfare reforms' that I first heard about nearly a decade ago being enacted now. And I was already becoming aware of the nature of society at that time, but have acquired a lot more knowledge since then, and spent a lot of time investigating certain subjects and reading and listening to people that know a lot more than me. And I know I could go to my family tomorrow and instigate a discussion on the subject and they would (a) support the welfare reforms 100%, (b) not pay any attention to my opinion whatsoever, despite the fact that they have absolutely no idea what they're talking about, and I used to work for this department and know it inside out.
I've felt since I was a child that society is fundamentally upside down, and of course I didn't understand why at all, but I never lost my conviction that this was the case. When I first began to understand why fifteen years ago, I was more than willing to cut people a bit of slack. I genuinely and naively believed that by now the public would be more aware and more radical than they are. Yet I probably spoke to about twenty odd people the other week about Cyprus and not one of them even knew what was happening. Even in the bank, no-one knew anything about it! Never mind had an opinion on it, never mind understood the mechanisms that are underpinning it. AFAIK Gilly did the same and got similar results.
There is definitely an undercurrent of dissatisfaction regarding what is going on, but I believe that it is just that, an undercurrent. Personally for me, I've tried to do lots of things to make the world a better place, and as I say, I'm not convinced they've had the remotest effect on anything, even other people's attitudes. I have been attacked, abused, condemned, argued with and ignored, though. I'm not saying that I'm going to stop trying, or that other people should, I'm just at the point where I honestly have no idea what to do to make a difference.

The world is $100,000,000,000 further in debt than it was two weeks ago. And this is just admitted government debt, this isn't banking debts or unfunded liabilities which are many, many times this figure. There are no economic policies or political ideologies that are going to turn this around. The only thing that is going to make a difference is for several countries all at the same time to tell the banksters something quite simple:
"Fuck off. We're not paying you back."
We've seen recently in Cyprus that when they were put under pressure there was absolutely no solidarity whatsoever from any of the other Eurozone countries, and they ultimately did exactly what the IMF banksters wanted. They didn't even vote on it in parliament. It will be interesting to see how the people respond.
Until a group of countries stand up to the banksters, wealth inequality will degenerate further and further, and figures like this will simply get worse:
That gives an optimistic impression of the nation if anything because it's based on the government's own figures and indicators. Yet we should consider ourselves fortunate. Because we're not the one-billion people in the world on the verge of starvation (yet), or the nearly one-billion people that don't have access to clean drinking water. Or the 2.5 billion that don't have safe sanitary conditions. Or the two-billion people in the world that live off $2 per day or less. There have been no political or economic solutions to help any of those people, so what makes you think it will be any different for us?

I think equally important to note as well is that people do care when it affects them, as I said previously. People already care greatly in Cyprus, and in every other nation in Europe where there have been massive protests. Many people in Britain do care as evidenced by the level of protest here, but eventually a lot more people are going to care a lot more than they do now. That's just a mathematical and economic fact. Whether people choose to face up to that now or not is up to them. It will hit them between the eyes sooner or later.
I also made it 100% clear that "at this point in time, the British government really has very little influence over what goes on in the country in a significant sense." I wouldn't expect Cartman to understand that, though.
