Dodged again

Kids can be defiant coz they just feel like it. It's got nothing to do with them having been abused, and everything to do with it being more fun doing what they fancy than what the responsible adult is trying to persuade them to do.

If that's what you really believe, then you're in for a rude awakening if you ever do procreate.

You're not actually dodging anything, you're just intentionally ignoring facts.

I smack the back of their hands, particularly in the plug socket scenario. I've tried explaining the existential impact of 240V but at 2 years old they don't seem to grasp it :dunno:

It's you who's dodging and ignoring obvious, basic facts.

Little ones are always reasonable unless they've been abused.

Would you smack your wife around if she got neurological damage and was doing things that might harm her, assuming it would alter her behavior?

Rephrase it whatever way you want.

Would you slap your wife on the hand if she developed brain damage and was a danger to herself, in order to attempt to alter her behaviour?

Funny how people have no problem abusing children but get all offended if you don't use their Orwellian language to describe it.

If my wife regressed mentally to a 2 year old and started poking at the sockets then yes I'd slap the back of her hand to deter her.

Would you let her learn for herself? (also a yes or no question ;))

It's not a binary situation, nor does it seem likely that someone in that state would learn.
The only time I would use violence to attempt to modify someone else's behaviour would be in response to a similar act.

I've never really thought about it.
Whether or not I present you with an answer you find acceptable it still does not give anyone carte blanche to assault someone else.
You could try getting everything wired, putting fixings over the sockets, etc, there's a lot of solutions you could come up with short of assault.

You sound just like that pair of scientists with the 3 & 1 year olds I mentioned earlier, Rept. The ones who were constantly stressed, frustrated, & totally run ragged because no amount of, "Please don't do that, because it's unkind", had any influence on their off-springs' savage antics. :D
