Did I miss something? I often do... :umm:

Nobody?

I don't really understand why rep's posts have riled you all...but then, I don't have children.

I'd like to think I'd make a good parent though, but I suppose everyone does before they actually have children. It does seem though that Rep has received a bit of a hard ride in here.

I actually found many of his posts quite interesting in relation to the op. I also found some of the jibes at his expense (unless it's just a joke that you're all in on?) a bit unnecessary. Again, I may not be privy to all info but it didn't make for pleasant reading, you know, just so you know.

Re. the op, I can't think of anything simpler than explaining to a child why you will/won't be celebrating something, if they are old enough to comprehend the concept of celebration in the first place? Surely, if an annual even such as Christmas, and whatever traditions that may entail in your own household, can so easily be normalised and accepted, the opposite could also be true? Granted, it may get difficult at school-age but of the children I know, and there aren't many, they appear to respond much better to truth and facts than fear, intimidation, or lies which I gather was the gist of rep's posts for the most part.

It would appear that the general consensus is that those without children can't reasonably be expected to have an opinion on the subject (even if the subject were discipline and children). I think this unfortunate, and very un'SZ like, if I may say so.

I also humbly suggest, perhaps the thread be split as although similar, there appear to be some quite strong views about Xmas and discipline which may be better served with their own threads.

Thank you Abs for posting that, it saved me from doing so.

I also find the personal attacks, condescension, etc, etc, aimed at Reptired to be petty of nature and completely inhibiting in having a decent, mature and rational discussion on the subject.

Maybe it has something to do with procreating altering the brain chemistry or something, or maybe it is as simple as some not wishing to accept responsibility for their actions/behaviour, or it could simply be emotional instability brought on by the 'silly season' ... who knows, who cares. It would be great to see a little more respect of other forum members, whatever the reason for the abuse.

And just incase it needed pointing out again, nobody here has ever denied that child abuse is a serious and damaging thing, or have argued in its favour, despite Rep and IAAIA's best attempts to spin it that way, for fuck's sake!!!

Quote or retract.

I wasn't even involved in the fucking discussion about child abuse and YOU attempt to make out as if I am some fucking baddie 'spinning' shit. What the fuck is up your arse?

Why would you make that up about me?

I credit rep with intelligence.
Therefore i figure he knows that if you start calling folk child abusers, you're likely to take flak. So i dont consider him that hard done by.

This whole thread is a shambles.

@ IAAIA - I can't be mithered going back over the thread to grab quotes, but the point is you and Rep were off with the lying about Santa being child abuse from the get go, which is what I was referring to.

As for, "I also find the personal attacks, condescension, etc, etc, aimed at..." :bla:

...and, " It would be great to see a little more respect of other forum members, whatever the reason for the abuse."

I've got a good idea. How about you practice what you preach? That would be cool.

Bullshit. There are no quotes to grab full stop.

You have made a false allegation about me, " IAAIA's best attempts to spin it that way", in relationship to, " nobody here has ever denied that child abuse is a serious and damaging thing, or have argued in its favour, despite Rep and IAAIA's best attempts to spin it that way,".

You are alleging that I have attempted "to spin it that way"in an attempt to make out as if you are in favour of child abuse.

Considering that you won't even admit it making shit up about me, I highly doubt that you will have the decency to retract your false allegation.

So where does the lying end Gilly?

Tbf iaaia, i dont recall you doing that. My recollection is of you being offline at the time rep was calling us all abusers.
I do also recall a bit of a spat recently though where you may have posted some stuff that showed another poster little respect. So i do find your call for others to show respect rather

No, you didn't use the words 'Child abuse', but according to you, those of us who tell our kids about Santa are on a par with the government & MSM, and don't wish to admit it. (So that's not accusing us of abusing our kids, is it! )

You're coming across like a right mard arsed, sanctimonious, hypocritical bore, IAAIA, guilty of a great many of the things you preach against.

And it's not your opinions that get on my tits, but the way you express yourself like a bully-boy. Still, I expect you've managed to justify to yourself being nasty & condescending to one member, then lecturing how you would hope to see people being more respectful. ;)

I doubt Santa will be making his way to your chimney this year.

Not really they are 2 separate issues.
Being lied to about Santa has not affected me one jot. I used to enjoy it and I remember finding it quite funny when I found out it was a myth.
& how would anything that's happened to me make me know how you've been emotionally afflicted by it? Does everybody's mind work the same?

I don't think you're interested in my experience, I think you're more interested in your own, whether you admit that to yourself or not, given the nature of the depth of the lies told to you by your family this just seems like a safe way to explore the issue, but I think you'd be better off addressing it head on.
You're claiming that your parents lying to you in certain contexts didn't effect you is not believable to me.

So you're saying context is irrelevant? I don't have any 'issues' about what happened - it pissed me off at the time then I dealt with it. I';m not one to let stuff get to me too much. (except the PID conspiracy)
My parents also told me they weren't taking me to Blackpool, then took me to Blackpool. It was all just one long stream of abuse.
You're clearly the only person here who feels like this so that's why I asked.

I didn't expect this to be such a popular or contentious thread.

All I can say is when Santa brought me a Scalextric it was brilliant. I only have fond memories of that. If anything, I wish I still believed in Santa now.

Thank you for the honesty mate, I appreciate it.

Do you mean my response to Dawnbreak after she labelled me as misogynistic?

If so, I agree that I showed little respect in my response to such an allegation. I didn't resort to name calling though, which appears to be something that those accusing me of being abusive, a bully, misogynistic, a horrible bastard, etc, etc, do on a regular basis, with the justification that they have been abused. There appears to be a double standard in regards to name calling and making false accusations against an individual based upon popularity.

If Shake had accused me of being a misogynist, would my response have drawn the same reaction?

Are some people allowed to name call and make false accusation while others are not allowed to without being set upon by others?

Amazing how easily people look for a scapegoat, a strawman to attack when faced with the responsibility of their own actions.

Again, thank you for your honesty.

So the lies continue.

I stated that lies are used to control the reaction of those being lied to, whether is telling a child that Santa is real, or the government and MSN media lying to you.

And you now claim that this equates to me 'spinning it' that you have denied child abuse is serious and that you have argued in it's favour.

So where do the lies stop Gilly?
