Mary Magdalene is thought of as his mother by some, lots of confusion.
And even more
conflation.
But confusion over which Mary was which is no suprise considering that the name (after Moses' sister) was very very popular at the time and place. She is also said to have been Mary of Bethany, The betrothed of John the Evangelsit, the leader of the Early Church, and many a Gnostic suggest she was his lover and/or wife. (Oh and Dan Brown readership, but we must forgive them their shortcomings.) People have even referred to this wonderful woman as a prostitute for which there is no evidence of. But that is the darker side of people: gossipy, malicious, dishonest and unkind.
Personally I am more ineterested in what I can be sure of: she was there at the crcucifixion with HIs mother and John, unlike many of His followers. And she was there when they opened His tomb and the first to see Him after the Resurection. (Mark 15:40, Matthew 27:56 and John 19:25 ).
