Simple... it would undermine male control of the church(s) and possibly even the world.
He was married = he thought women were worthy of his time, even worthy of being important figures...male's have to step off their high perch and accept it whether their poor ego's suffered or not.

There is A LOT not contained in that little book bible thumpers carry around (no offense intended to anyone)... the Vatican is sitting on top of piles and piles of information, both historically important and modern-wise important. It gives them control, and do you see any women as head of that order? Nope. They've also taken it upon themselves throughout history to rewrite it to their benefit (given, it could have just been a simple mistranslation, but now days, people would catch that mistranslation and no one has).

But confusion over which Mary was which is no suprise considering that the name (after Moses' sister) was very very popular at the time and place. (Oh and Dan Brown readership, but we must forgive them their shortcomings.) People have even referred to this wonderful woman as a prostitute for which there is no evidence of. But that is the darker side of people: gossipy, malicious, dishonest and unkind.

Personally I am more ineterested in what I can be sure of: she was there at the crcucifixion with HIs mother and John, unlike many of His followers. And she was there when they opened His tomb and the first to see Him after the Resurection. (Mark 15:40, Matthew 27:56 and John 19:25 ).

Well Jesus certainly had time for women and I am saddened that you have been lead to believe otherwise. :(

Definitely not... but they all seem to have the same messiah, or messenger (as some don't believe he was the son of god). And they all seem to have resulted in a similar translation, man on top of dog pile, everyone and everything else below. Which makes me think that whatever information the Vatican is holding has been collected throughout the ages and stockpiled there where other religions cannot get to it either.

Oh I believe 100% he had time for women and WAS married. I am not religious but do believe he existed, but was a gifted man with a lot of abilities, but not the son of a god and he did marry and have children. However, in the eyes of some, if he was married that shows that it is not a male dominated world, it shows he considered women worthy.

Wow, so before Marco Polo had arrived with his vatican Scripture Stealers, the Far East was a paradise for women? :killinme:

Did the Vatican also write the Koran when they were still the Early Church?

Did they infiltrate India 2000 years before an established Church in Rome ever existed and change Indian culture from an Emancipated Eden to the Chauvanist Shitlhole with deh evil Vatikan wiles and magik powaz? :killinme:

Because we all know that single people and gay couples consider women unworthy and all married women are feminists, including wife-beaters[/sarcasm] :hahano:

:chuckle: Whatever lol... i blame those in power that stockpile information from the rest for whatever reasons they use. The Vatican is the most well known, although I am sure there other religious fanatics that are at the top and keep information from lowers. And at this very moment, I severely dislike the general male population, hence my biased view of them.
My opinion is biased and is lumping large groups of people together, I admit... opinion may change later on down the road... But for the moment, it remains...Jesus being married is not mainstream information because it poses a threat to the heads of the organized religion.

Edit: no offense taken, and no offense intended :)

Speculation? That could be the theme on many accounts Mikey.
Unfortunately as information gets passed on we have to ask how reliable is it?
Religion in itself has its messages and agendas, the agendas sometimes cause people to ask why, which I think is quite acceptable but it appears that some get upset when this happens.

Just as we have to ask how reliable "the latest discovery" as reported in media that is desperate for any sort of attention and therefore prone to exaggeration and misinformation. Which is what I was doing throughout this thread.
silvershine wrote:

As I said in my first post on this thread: Such speculation is often motivated by genuine academic and historical motives and the theological impications are embraced in an ecumenical manner with no ulterior sectarian and/or political motives
However such specualtion has been used in the past with the intention of "disproving" Christianity.

No, that he thought of women as worthy, equals even. Most heads of modern religion are male and a far cry from older religions (Druid, Pagan...Egyptian even... a "goddess", a "mother" as head of state, or Egyptian culture where it seems both male and female were recognized).
Although celibacy/non marriage/commitment would make some sense too...

The celibacy thing with priests began in the RCC later.

Orthodox and Protestant clergy may marry.

G'day Silvershine.

There's no credible evidence that such a person as 'Jesus of Nazareth' ever existed, let alone whether such an individual was married or not. This is "a faded, fourth-century scrap of papyrus", which is hardly the supposed time period of when the supposed character of 'Jesus of Nazareth' existed. So basically, the conclusion can be drawn that at some point in the 4th century, someone wrote this.

There is no way of knowing whether such a writing is based on another text. Heck, it is possible that it is a fragment of a fantasy novel that was around during that time period.

He was a human being, the same as all humans, he figured things out, he was smart.

Was he devinely chosen?, it seems he walked his own walk and was disliked for it. Was Christ himself a heretic against judaism?

In a more positive way?

Some people get shown where they are going wrong but as usual, some never learn, they think when the watchers have stopped they can just carry on.

Somebody is always watching, it just takes a certain kind to change it all. Christ was accused of heresy, yet, being as divine as he was he was still stripped down and ridiculed.

I think ultimately much good can come out of such discusiion so I thank the OP. :)

I would never inflict my beliefs on other people uninvited but I believe that threads on this forum, when posted, invite opinion.

I would just like to reiterate my point about a healthy skepticism as regards these so-called "discoveries".and provide an example:
