I read about this on the BBC website, something that made me laugh was a comment by Jim West, a professor and Baptist pastor in Tennessee about this find -
"A statement on a papyrus fragment isn't proof of anything. It's nothing more than a statement 'in thin air', without substantial context."

The irony of it all.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-19645273

Wonder if the Coptic's have got any other interesting fragments?

At the end of the day Jesus was a man promoting Judaism possibly a traditional form ( i haven't studied Jewish history) although he might have been promoting a Hellenised version so either way marriage would not be unusual.

There was an idea that a priest named Saunière may have been blackmailing the vatican, he did appear to suddenly become very wealthy.

What did he know?

She has been said to be his concubine, the pictures we see of them don't prove much either way, they only come about from peoples visions or interpretations.

They could have been the modern day equivalent of Bonnie and Clyde. :chuckle:

How does one prove that she was not a concubine?

In what way do Jesus and Mary Magdalene resemble people responsible for 13 murders, some of whom were innocent people?

Thanks Humanspirit for that link.

I am amused and yet saddened at this:
According to Prof King's research team, the text also quotes Jesus as telling his followers that Mary Magdalene is worthy of being his disciple.

Both the Professer and the BBC Theology department are deceiving their readership: the suggestion being that Magdalene is not a Disciple.

This is NOT true.
Saint Mary Magdalene, also called Mary of Magdala (flourished 1st century ad, Palestine; feast day July 22), one of Jesus’ most celebrated disciples, famous, according to Mark 16:9–10 and John 20:14–17, for being the first person to see the resurrected Christ.

Now ask yourselves who it is who is obfuscating informatiion. :hmm:

What page did you find that image on originally shiney?
The address is not a recognised image file one so it won't display here.
You're doing nothing wrong atm btw. :)

Here's your image... I just had to route it through photobucket first to get it to display.

Oh, it has to be in capitals? and the closing tag, yes, thanks.

No to both.
You don't need to use a hosting site and it makes no difference if the tags are in capitals.
In this instance it is purely the source of your image that is causing the difficulty.

Notice how that address resolves in .jpg. (a recognised image file), where your original source did not.
Did that make sense? :P

Well the only time that I have addressed what you have posted that was similar was when i asked you questions about your comparisons to Lord Lucan and Bonnie and Clyde.

I think they are fair questions because you have chosen murders and criminals twice now.

If you wished to compare Mary Magdalene and Jesus to a famous couple then you could have chosen Romeo and Juliet or countless other famous loves. However, once again you have chosen rather distasteful characters.

If I am a broken record, it is because of your own repetition. :D

I see you may be a bit sensitive Mikey, so I will take great care with you in the future.
If you could just give me a full list of do and donts it would really help me out here.

You certainly don't like direct questions regarding your choice of comparisons. And you avoided answering that last one. ;)
