I'll again make a clarification that I perceive different 'levels' of transhumanists. Certainly at some levels there is an apparently genuine desire to better the lot of humanity as a whole but sitting on a 'high' level are a bunch who have basically moved on from eugenicist ideas of superiority and hope to take that to a new level. To my mind, they are already "raving loony psychos". Should they ever achieve their goals we is gonna have to invent a new term for em :D

Yep instead of exterminating undesirables they just become a whole new species themselves and view us as zoo specimens instead.

I've generally thought of transhumanism to be the controllers of the control system's wet dream. Basically, if they could digitise humanity. We're already halfway there it would seem, the way we're all plugged in and linked up to the net, mobile phones, ever reliant on technology to get by from day to day. Humanity, plugged in to one huge network, becoming "one". The comparison to the Borg is a bit of an extreme one, I don't think it would be quite that bad, Borg Lite maybe. :hahano:

If they could control us like we're just another "device"...seems to me to be the next logical step for 'them'.

Hope I made sense. :chuckle:

I've posted about this in the past elsewhere, still haven't got round to reading it yet, but it looks interesting to say the least.
Are we made up of "unwieldly atoms"? :hahano:

Negroponte Beingdigital

...and tries to predict how the technologies will evolve. Negroponte presents a strong belief that humanity is inevitably headed towards a future where everything that can will be digitalized (be it newspapers, entertainment, or sex). This leads Negroponte to a quote repeated often in promoting and explaining the book's material, that the book is made of "unwieldy atoms" that will probably be replaced by a digital copy by the time anyone reads the book.

You made perfect sense. The term used by them for what you describe is the Hive Mind, in that respect the comparison to the Borg or Borg lite is perfectly apt. I think you're bang on in suggesting that a large part of the World, including us here using this forum are already well on the way to being adapted.
Having seen how big an epic fail it is when a group of people try to achieve consensus, i can foresee one or two problems with this Hive Mind thing if it ever becomes reality :D I jest of course, there's no way any of us would be allowed in. Imagine what an Oioioi could do if one got in there :chuckle:

Negroponte went to the 'school of kings' - Le Rosey in Switzerland.
You'll find a few rich brats who talk crap just like him have all gone there ;)

Came across this old adaptation of man versus machine and the likes.

If the machine stops as of now, who reliant upon the machines would cope with a digital drought.

The use of motorised vehicles is a form of transhumanism.

I tend to find some car drivers take on a dislike for the human form when they get behind the wheel.

That's an interesting point. A human behind the wheel becomes a "motorist". A human riding a bike becomes a "cyclist". A human on foot becomes a "pedestrian".

Heh, that is actually quite correct.
Any use of tech is transhumanism and we have literally been doing it since discovering fire and simple tools.

Arthur C Clarkes 2001 is a film about mans tools and how the tools eventually themselves evolved to a point where the tools control man instead of man being in control via the use of tools.

Welcome to the jungle H, I happily reside in the zoo I have made for myself here, and would gladly get paid to remain showing the rest how it used to be, gladly stay on my holler deck forever.

All those years ago, you were right about the phone banking app, here we are, tops.

What we could be doing is investing in our own kids futures today, by teaching them everything we know today that counts, for the next generation who aquires problem solving hands on skills we be the ones in demand the world over, not demanding the things they wished they had or could have done.
My generation is probably the last one that will be able to do this, to be a skilless human will be a brain dead person, not knowing or caring where they sit amongst those working for nothing.

Iirc you've passed some of your skills down a generation aint ya app? I'm giving my boys a few as they grow. Hopefully there'll be a core that are still basically able to do things for themselves.

Hmmm I wouldn't say the new generation are skilless but shall we say they have skills that are not much use when push comes to shove perhaps?
They do have new skills to be fair to them but they're not skills those of us with grey hair would appreciate much :D
