There was stuff floating about a few years back about organ transplants effecting recipients' personalities and their liking of things & their urges, as though memory and emotion that might be thought of as being part of the soul resides inside some of those body parts' cells. I wonder how that would be effected if we had clones of ourselves as body-part banks - whether our dying bits take some of our being's essence with them, beyond the tangible lump of meat. :O

Its a good vid, deffo worth watching for the guy with the black hairs comments.
Totally without feeling btw, it was cold as ice.
Gave me a shiver for sure.

I'll watch it when my laptop's co-operating. I agree - from the bit I saw, if he wasn't just playing evil's advocate, he was scary.

Sorry that was rash, but I perceive the way you come to many of your conclusions as quite rash.

If it seems fast and off the cuff its probably just because I've discussed the exact same thing on DIF for ages :)

Transhumanism is certainly one of the topics I did a hell of a lot, along with authoritarian values.

Jiffy was an interesting guy on DIF to talk to about economics, I learned a lot off him, shame he left. Wub took up the mantle quite well though.

its probably just because I’ve discussed the exact same thing on DIF for ages
Which in reality means very little, you think your opinions carry more worth than they sometimes do imo.

Everybody has opinions.
Some of us have changed opinions over time as new info arrives etc.
I've yet to see any new info that changes mine so to speak, although it does sometimes happen.

Good article was surprised they slipped this bit in:
we could be headed for a future in which our minds could be downloaded to a computer chip as our brains give out.
I don't really have much view on this, it's fairly irrelevant to the here and now imo, the concepts and dialectics of what it means to be human it evokes are very interesting though.

Yeah but Icke was saying that kind of stuff about next week December 2012 wasn't he?
10 years is very optimistic, to me it's more like maybe a hundred or two and that tech will be useable if things continue proceeding as they have been for the last few decades, completely not inevitable though.

We're already at the stage were sight and hearing can be restored via brain interface, where headsets that control gaming etc with brainwaves are set to hit the market, where the genome has long been mapped, where nano tech can build motors on a molecular level, where darpa are talking about super soldiers and investing hugely in the tech........and you think this is 100 odd years from fruition?

You're a fan of demanding to know why people think as they do, so why do you think that?

I don't demand to know what you think, you explaining what you think just means I have to ask less questions.

To answer your question; I read science daily daily and new scientist monthly, have some close scientist friends, and I have an interest in the subject within it's historical, cultural and economic context.

It depends really I guess on what you define us as being 100 years away from exactly.
Certainly dub is right to say tech has advanced to the point where we are already messing with dna and already have brain interface.

An established culture of transhumanism might take 100 years though I would agree with that.

Yes but gue appears to be saying the tech will take 100 or maybe 200 years....he then says he's got this from reading sciency stuff and having sciency friends.

To which i call bullshit.

Look how far we've come in the past 100 years.
Look how things have advanced in the past 15 years.

Technological advances seem to be accelerating at an incredible rate.

If things continue as they are, and we don't wipe ourselves out or something, I think in 100 years, the world will be a very different place from what it is now.

And how we just accept it all as well...it's not like we're sitting here freaking out saying "wow! WOOOW!!" with each new step we take technology wise. Seeing something when out and about and taking a photo of it with your eyes, then instantly uploading it to the internet...and? Do you know what I mean though? It's only when you look back, that you realise just how far you've come.

Thats the thing innit irre. The masses sit in constant anticipation of the next 'step'. They just can't get enough tech it seems. They love it. They'll be on a borg ship before.they stop to think......maybe ;)

Star Trek TNG type advances would be great though...boldy going and all that shit :D The Holodeck, I'm surprised they got any work done actually...I'd be in there 24/7 having sex with a young Debbie Harry :D

Warp engine tech is already a theoretical possibility and no longer the realm of science fiction.

I'm eagerly awaiting the next phase of marco rodin and harramein's work. As much as being able to navigate spacetime on a huge scale would be um, ace; limitless free energy would be equally transformative for the human race and everything that currently suffers at the hands of it's insatiable appetite for torque.

Will we need transhumanism to explore space I wonder? To help keep our fragile bodies going during the rigours of space travel and that...
Our current space vehicles are quite frankly a bit shit aren't they? They look like they're sellotaped together, and the astronauts just float around like idiots :D
I wonder how they'll handle gravity on future spacecraft?

It's exciting.

I think humans are intolerant of limitation :chuckle:

In your haste to find some personal disagreement with me you discounted the very aspect of technology I was referring to in my post to RA, ie people's minds being uploaded to USB drive ;)
I think that specific technology or similar level of advanced transhumanism is at least 100 years away. :sokay:

I go by the reasoning if the military aren't using it as standard or specialist issue then it's at least 25 years away from public consumption.
