When we decided upon a legal structure through which to operate TPV we had to balance the need for transparency against cost and regulation.
After taking advice we decided to incorporate Peoples Voice Broadcasting Limited as a private limited company. Principally because we did not wish to burden TPV with the increased regulatory cost and operational restrictions that apply to Charities and Community Interest Companies (CIC).
Just re read it and this stood out - transparency does not need to cost imho - nor am I aware that there are regulations against transparency but feel free to show me I am wrong
They mention the cost and restrictions that apply to charities and cic's - anyone know what the extra costs might be v the incentives as I would have thought that all charities would therefore become plcs if it was expensive. What would the operational restrictions be had they set themselves up as a cic or charity and why no mention of limited by guarantee?
It would seem highly unlikely that the costs of running a charity are more than that of a business, all things considered. Would it not?
If it were cheaper to operate as a business. Charities would operate as a business
I did once flirt with the idea of making a community project a charity and looked into it with the aid of a local councillor. Luckily the charities commission office was in the same town and he knew them. They gave the go ahead with but a few conditions and I don't remember anything about it costing to do. Maybe a registration fee but I can't remember. The charity would then have kept accounts just as a business would.
As it happened, the project became a smack den then an office block rather than a community centre

I aint taking the blame though
