IF they get on the Astra satellite, that will cost a fortune. If they want to be on Sky's (or Freesats) EPG, that will also cost a fortune.
There are a list of charges here:
corporate.sky.com/documents/pdf/20c24d2e...hed_price_list_3.pdf
EPG LISTING CHARGE:
Television Channels £21,000 per listing per annum
Radio Stations £16,000 per listing per annum
Interactive Platforms £16,000 per listing per annum
Other Television Channels: £62,000
The most they can possibly be charged is is £5,000 per month. I don't know if there are other expenses in addition to that, but assuming for the sake of argument that there aren't then it's only an extra 10 percent per month.
In my view, from day one they should have stated that they were aiming to be on TV from day one, that they were going to be on the Sky platform, that they anticipate they can attract a big audience if people will support them and that this will bring in advertising revenue. And we're going to be streaming all content online for those that don't have or want Sky. But we're starting from scratch so we need something to get us off the ground, this is where you come in. We estimate the costs to run the station will be £55,000 per month, so if we could target £500,000 this would keep us going for nearly a year until we're established and can attract sponsors. We realise that we're asking for a lot, but crowdfunding is the only way we can do it. Our aim is to be self-sufficient well before the crowdfunding money has run out.
IMO this was easily achieveable, but now they've squandered all of the money, and most of the goodwill and impetus.
