If all of us put our money into building societies then they could just go 100% digital and charge everything via visa cards.
Job done, 100% digital.

What do you do now? See what I mean? The money in this bank or that bank is quite futile as of its own.
Pulling it all out as cash and hiding it under the mattress or whatever is no good either as they'd just have an amnesty period to hand over the no longer legal tender in exchange for 'genuine' universally accepted legal tender electronic credits.

And it doesn't matter what currency its denoted in either..pounds, euro, once its digital its all the same to the bankers. Total world domination. Its in the bag.

It is not in the bag if we the people own the financial institutions and they are properly and strictly regulated.

China is easy enough to explain but Spain?

And WTF? You actually like access to easy credit?!
No-one is that stupid.

Personally I like earning enough to not need credit in the first place, debt=servitude. Thats the whole point of having unemployment though isn't it? Drive wages down, make more profits, get the proles in debt up to their eyeballs, steal their homes.
FFS...I truly cannot believe the staggering stupidity of that post, even the daily mail comments section shows more brain cells than that.

To own all the financial institutions you would need a national sized syndicalism of the type I mentioned before.
Hence the whole point of it.

If you ask people to stick their money in certain bank accounts today and nothing else, then you won't have that impact. In fact, none at all as the banks are quite happy to function without any high st branches at this point in the game, they are prepping for it right now.
Tens of thousands have been laid off from banks onto the dole, as the *anker bankers get even bigger bonuses.

Who needs branches with digital right? lol...we are sooo fucked...

The lorry or train delivers a trailer which docks onto the bay, the trailer automatically becomes plugged in to the factory, which now controls it's actions through computer. As required, any ingredients needed from the docked lorries are brought by robots to their required location. All ingredients mixed together innto their required food-type. The finished product is automatically weighed and packaged, palleted, and allocated a distribution point. Automatically loaded back onto a trailer, taken away by the same lorry.

That was in 1989 :)

I don't think that's very respectable and lowers the tone of the whole thread.
Credit enables average people to start producing things on the same scale as large corporations.
If somebody has a good idea for a business, instead of relying on rich industrialists or oligarchs for investment they can go to a bank and get a loan for a price.
If you use credit to consumer more fool you, you fell for the first trap, if you use credit to produce you will be very rich as long as you have a viable product that will benefit humanity.

Lol, if you keep your money with a building society, credit union or trustee savings bank, you have far greater control over what happens than if you put your money in a banks or go to pay day loan companies. That is a very simple if that can be easily done.

It is a false dichotomy and that is why it is a straw man argument.

Do you see the building societies, credit unions and trustee savings banks laying off loads of staff? No
Did you see them needing bail outs? No
Do they pay massive bonuses to the chiefs and big payouts to shareholders? No

If people move their money from the unregulated banks into the regulated financial organisations, the banks will have to compete by
accepting regulation, responsibility and social responsibility.

If you're in a position where you can borrow millions then you already have a shitload of money, so please cut the crap.

If you're an average joe then the tale is quite different now, try wonga.com and 2719% APR or some other insanity.

Building societies and credit unions do not make the law.
They are powerless to prevent the government from making the 100% digital law I mentioned earlier and no amount of moving money around banks will stop it.

Postpone it for yourself? Perhaps...if you exchange it for local currency in siberia and move there.

See slavery as you do not want to pay people for their work. You want people with nothing to trade to work for free. The most successful traders get very wealthy and the rest are slaves.

Wonga don't do business loans andyh, many people wouldn't have been able to start their own businesses without the availability of credit, whether to buy premises, equipment or production facilities credit enables average people to create their own realities.

Way to miss the point. The law makes the building societies and credit unions not the other way around. That way they are controlled, by us the depositors. What is wrong with digital if the financial institutions are properly regulated and owned by depositors?

Agreed and for now, you suggest some very wise courses of action. But considering the trajectory of further deregulation, the institutions you mention will be next.
