I kinda liked the remake(Dawn), okay. It wasn't bad but the original was definitely better.

One thing that did bug me about 28 Days was the whole, "They're infected with rage!" I thought that was pretty cheesy. But they were redeemed in my eyes with the priest, twitching and crawling across the floor of the church. Creepy.

I also like some of the old black & white zombie flicks from way back. I can't remember the name but there was one from the 30's or 40's that had a voodoo them. Pretty cool. Oh, that reminds me- Serpent & the Rainbow is an excellent flick! I need to re-watch that!

if I recall correctly the priest in 28 days later was actually a movement coach or something. I always listen to commentaries on movies because you find out this useless trivia which I like to fill my head with. I agree that a virus works too as it did with 28 days later but it annoys me personally when dead people move fast. I mean they are dead. Although as I said I also kind of enjoyed the recent spree of remakes on a certain level. Although they were missing a level too. I am not big on horror movies but mainly because it is so easy to make a bad or average movie. I think to make a really good horror movie is tough because a cat jumping out of a cupboard is shit after the first time you see it and I dislike the use of evil dudes that simply never die. 19 false endings feels like a bad rock concert to me.

Also not sure what movie it was but apparently German stunt men will burn longer.

I agree re the modern dross, K. I don't think any new films have even made it into my top ten, tbh. They are very much "disposable" in my eyes. Can't say how today's youth feel about them, though.

I did like the remake of Dawn, but agree it was definitely lacking something that the original had. I don't know why, but the original still scares me more than the new one. The first five mins or so of the remake were actually quite scary, but otherwise, I lost interest.

I think one of Romero`s strengths is that he has been forced to do things the hard way. I mean he has not had the huge budget so he has had to improvise and rely on a good script/ideas.

Remember how in Jaws the shark fucked up in the salt water so they actually showed the shark a lot less which most likely made Jaws a better movie. Less is more but to so many movie makers more is more and bigger is better.

I liked the first Saw movie. That was pretty clever but as is often the case they had to keep flogging the horse.

I used to collect horror movies on DVD and my opinion is that the older ones are better than the stuff their making today. Try The Wicker Man (original 60s version), Near Dark, Creepshow 1 and 2, C.H.U.D., The Relic and Split Second. Carpenter's The Thing still is scary and intense to me. I collect the Asian horror films, too.

As for zombies, I think the remake of the Night of the Living Dead was decent.
