...to those of you in the states :D

I'll post Thanksgiving dinner pictures after we get done making it...for no other reason than to rub it into Phem a bit more about what he's missing, and to make Irr drool :chuckle: But until then, here's a brief history of today (the day I commonly refer to as the beginning of the end for the Natives, but they don't seem to hold any grudges about today so good food and a few drinks wont hurt).
In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. For more than two centuries, days of thanksgiving were celebrated by individual colonies and states. It wasn't until 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, that President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November.

www.history.com/topics/thanksgiving

Now, if we wanna argue when the whites first landed here, either by accident (common story of Columbus), on purpose by the Nordics and Knights Templar (who Columbus was involved with)...I'm sure no one will mind. I mean, come on, Columbus was a freaking captain of a ship, did he really get lost trying to find, what was it? Spain? And wound up in North America? :hahano: While I don't give men that much credit when it comes to finding their way around, especially if it involves stopping and asking for directions, I highly doubt "finding" North America was an accident. The more plausible reason is that he was a member of the Knights Templar, who by the way, had already traveled here with the Nordics and Scott's (whom they helped fight the English)...Columbus even flew the Templar Cross on his sails...the Nordics were known for trading, there is the Kingstone land markers in the upper states, there are similar stones found along the west coast with Templar markings and Nordic markings and buildings, masonry, that dates back that fits with what the Templars were known for building. I think it was Columbus' father-in-law who was a high ranking mason, who handed our dear Columbus a map to find North America. White man did not land here in 1492 for the first time...the Natives had already established contact with lighter skinned humans, therefore did not plant arrows in white man's ass upon first sight :chuckle:

Now I'm sure I got something wrong up there, feel free to correct me, we're already starting the celebrating (well, I am  ).

Again, Happy Thanksgiving, even if it's based on altered history :alc:

Thank you, Stars.... right back at ya.

Interesting notes you've made about the discovery of turtle island. :turt:

Today, I don't feel like being around inane chatter that needs a response. I have a good excuse not to attend a dinner - I am going to take care of a neighbors dogs who need a lot of attention. :puppy:

If I was attending a dinner, my favorites would be the stuffing, mashed potatoes and cranberries. :heart1:

I hope you have a really nice day, today.

Heck... I will even take it as far as wishing everyone has a nice day today. Crazy, huh?

I want turkey, or chicken, or any meat really, and, and...what does a thanksgiving dinner consist of?
I've just eaten a jacket spud and beans, but there's room for more :O :emb:

@NMG - I get what you mean. Up until a few years ago every holiday we had to have a get together with people I didn't on very well with, it took quite a bit to drink (or an anti-depressant, lexapro, and a few drinks) to get through the day without ripping my hair out...but fortunately, when I filed for a restraining order one of those people, I got excommunicated by the rest of them (along with my mother) so now I don't have to suffer through them anymore and I can actually enjoy the few holiday's we celebrate.

@Irr - Most commonly, Turkey and/or Ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, green-bean casserole, cranberries, corn, pies, ice cream, whip cream, bubbly, stuffing... I think that's it. Different people have different traditions. Today we're fixing a small Turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, green-bean casserole, a pie, ice cream, whip cream, stuffing, and cheap wine.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the time difference, you don't want to be having thanksgiving grub for breakfast :D

I'll be in bed by the time you're settling down to tuck into your lovely dinner...hmmm... if we could set up a really long tube from my house to yours...you could liquidise it and give it to me introveinously while I'm sleeping :D

:chuckle: no such luck, that'd take a long time and the food would be bad by then. You'll have to settle for pictures tomorrow, like left-overs :D

Yummy! Looking forward to seeing the pic's.

I'd have distrusted that curry, just in case they tossed curry powder in to mask the rancidness of the meat.

G'day StarsChildren.

Thanks for the thought gorgeous.
Love3blowingkissji2

A quick question though ...

Is the word thanksgiving an oxymoron ?

After all, when someone gives you something it is polite to say thank you. Add into it the historical aspect of what it is supposed to represent, it would make more sense if it was thankstaking.

Just sayin'. :psketti:

G'day StarChildren.

I've got a couple of recipes from a cookbook that a couple of friends and I put together that can help you out there ...

FUDGELICIOUS

A healthy carob and peanut butter fudge that is utterly delicious.
The amounts I have listed are aproximates and I had a lot of dry mix leftover after adding them to the peanut butter and honey. I used what was left to make the mousse - see next recipe - that can be spread on the fudge to make an amazing combo.

INGREDIENTS
Honey - 12 dessert spoons.
Peanut butter - 6 - 10 dessert spoons, depending on how sweet you llke it.
Sesame seeds - One third of a cup.
Sunflower seeds - One third of a cup.
Carob powder - 1/2 to Two thirds of a cup, depending on how rich you like it. You can use cocoa instead (half the amount).
Desiccated coconut - One quarter of a cup
Sultanas - One quarter of a cup

METHOD
Combine honey and peanut butter in a saucepan, heat gently, stir occasionally.

MIx the other ingredients together in a bowl (except for the sultanas).

When the peanut butter and honey is combined, remove from heat and immediately add other ingredients, except the sultanas, and mix well.

Grease a pan/tin of desired shape and depth and press the mixture into it, smoothing the top. Press in the sultanas and fridge until firm.

Variation:
Replace honey with maple syrup or other sweetener.
Replace carob with cocoa. Only need half as much as cocoa is a lot sweeter.

MOUSSE

This recipe uses coconut cream that has set in the fridge and is then whipped in a blender to create the mousse texture. Or you could use a can straight out of the cupboard and place the finished mousse in the fridgte to set. Coconut cream is an awesome replacement for dairy products in recipes. It sets really well and goes with so many different fruit and nut flavours. I AM ALL I AM and Harmony 5 have come up with some great dessert recipes that use it. It is handy to keep a tin of it in the fridge.

INGREDIENTS
Tahini - 1 – 2 dessert spoons
Carob powder - Quarter to one third of a cup
Coconut cream - Small tin, 270 ml – fridged.
Banana - 1
Sesame seeds - Little under one sixth of a cup.
Sunflower seeds - Little under one sixth of a cup.
Desiccated coconut - One eighth of a cup
Honey - 1 tea spoon.

METHOD
Combine everything in blender.... easy peasy.

This is awesome with fudgelicious and avocado. Or on toast with banana and peanut butter or with crushed nuts. It is also good on rice cakes with avo or peanut butter. You could easily make a nutella flavoured one with hazelnuts. I reckon avo's and nanas go great with heaps of sweets and they are both in season here and we have found a local organic grower who sells them cheaply at the market each week.
