Clearly.

However, given the amount of people you've managed to piss off, as of now you have your last formal warning to get it sorted or you're gone. Are we clear?

I'm not prepared to lose members just because you won't try and address points that are repeatedly made and asked of you.

Last chance RA.

I am not sure why those people mentioned left but the problem we have is our size. I think this is clear for all to see. We have a handful of members here and most people get along with the usual divides of groups. So for somebody like myself I know certain users will disagree with a point or agree. If everything you post is taken negatively then you might say fuck it and leave. So somebody like nirvana might have said fuck it. I really don't know why he left but possibly it was something like that. So if you want to build this community then you need to perhaps address this some how.of course if you just want this to be a back slapping mutual masturbation kind of deal then you can have that too. I started my forum wanting it to be bigger than this but smaller than dif. It failed but this forum has a good chance to get to a good size. Right now there are times that I sign in and see nothing to comment on or read and so to my mind we still need to grow. Of course so far I have not put my money where my mouth is.

I am glad the clear the air topic was started but not sure everybody wants it clear.

Well, Nirvana's just one of the ones who explained his reason for leaving when requesting his account be inactivated - I remember DG pointing it out - so my comments re many people feeling pushed out were not based on speculation.

I hope we can voice our appreciation of friends' contributions here (along side voicing our more negative comments, as we have) without it being portrayed as, "a back slapping mutual masturbation kind of deal".

Andyh..I read your post with the link to the reason hadabusa left...He left because our 'relationship' finished and he was about to do the dirty on me, owing me money, leaving unpaid debts...with the threat of debt collectors coming to my door ...which has taken me months to sort out...so to now be reading about good old hada leaving because he seemed to be bored is starting to feel like a bit of an insult. Anyway, I know the slug still has his fans on here, and will be talked about every now and again..so I think it's time for me to leave....

I wish you all a very Happy New Year. :)

Never thought I'd say it, but please deactivate my account.....Thank you. :)

Pheo...that is the information he gave me and others here so thats what I've taken as being the reason for it.
(I do hope you don't infer that I'm judging you somehow or whatever...it just is what it is, I can only go on the info I see)
How much did he borrow and was it to buy weed? :)

I'm sorry Andyh..it's just when I see his name mentioned I see red. Yes, I understand that you believe what he wrote..you had no reason not too. :)

No not weed.

Hmm this is quite the slap in the face, particularly after I mentioned me making assumptions about people just a short while ago further up the thread!

If you want perhaps you could explain in a pm or whatever, or not however you feel.
I'll promise to not mention him again seeing as I know how you feel now.

It is as much about perception as anything. Let's say for example that there is a topic about abortion and all the comments are anti abortion and each user is clicking thank you and +1ing the comments and one person disagrees and says pro choice and then they disagree with the entire group. Flip the example around or change the topic but the point is that a certain environment might not appear welcoming to new members, on a bigger forum there will be more people on each side of a topic(in theory). The back slapping might still go on but it is less isolating.

Feather, I think Dub was simply trying to avoid being acrimonious. I've put some links in my long post just so people can see what I'm talking about. But I'm not sure that going over all of our individual grievances is going to be very helpful. I would much rather us just all resolve to behave maturely and in a way which is consistent with the rules that we signed up for, and that there should be consequences for people who don't.

We can't have the world number one on the thankyou list leaving:

sanctumzone.co.uk/forum/stats.html

...this would be like Federer quitting tennis, Messi retiring in his prime, or the Rocket stopping playing snooker! And we've already had one of those occur, and another is imminent, so I hope you will stick around!

I get what you are saying there I-b and you are right.
In Nirvana's case though, I don't think he left because he was a lone voice of a particular view. I think he left because in voicing that view he took a fair bit of personal flak. In that regard some posters here will hopefully know what I mean and accept that they played a big part in that. My memory is clear that some very DIF stuff occurred with regards to him.
I actually miss him. He was active in the convos about DIY and stuff. I actually felt quite sorry for him that he was genuinely Islamophobic. That's not to say he hated Muslims but rather that he had genuine fears of aspects of Islam that he was experiencing in his home area. I'd kind of hoped that a presence here might have helped him get over those fears. It didn't pan out that way :(

Bigotry/bias towards any one particular group as being responsible for everything should not be what we are all about.
The whole jew thing and muslim thing really pisses me off, there's no justification for it. There are plenty of bankers in this world who are not jewish and there are plenty of terrorists who are not muslims.
Let me remind people, the fist definition of terrorism was (and should still be) a form of government.

IMHO there is some labelling going on thats inappropriate, as far the jew thing goes zionists is a better word to use because it includes people who are not of the jewish faith and not necessarily in israel either. They are not of the jewish ethnicity so to speak.

As for the muslims a better word to use is the fundie extemists just the same as the xtian type who also funnily enough also fall under the zionist label! Fundie xtians can also include such nutters as scientology/mormonism/westboro baptists/other xtians who believe in stuff like armageddon-and specifically steering israel towards it for some religious satisfaction....

People who refuse to acknowledge such stuff have the blinkers on and often fall into the nazi trap and we really shouldn't be going anywhere near all that shit again.

All I am personally asking for is that people who are continually disruptive and non-constructive, and who flaunt the rules that we sign up to, are dealt with. Like this:

sanctumzone.co.uk/forum/The-Community-Ch...t=20&start=180#90675

We've tried asking people to behave more reasonably; it doesn't work! I don't want to put the moderators in a difficult position, I appreciate everyone that volunteered for it.

And remember, it's great that we can even have this discussion because it would have been literally impossible somewhere else I could name.

I don't think Nirvana did think that Muslims are to blame for everything though andy, or anything like it. I think he had concerns that he felt legitimate for what he saw on his streets. Those concerns had obviously been played on by manipulative fucks.
Of course I don't agree with those views or fears but I don't think he was treated fairly here myself. I think if he was shown more respect he may well have ended up looking at his own concerns and weighing them up. That was nipped in the bud though.

Guilty as charged :emb:

I didn't like him and to be honest and I likely wouldn't like him if I'd known him as real person either. We just would never click and that's fact. Wasn't down to his personal beliefs either...

But I did try and pull that back and made an effort to be more courteous in the few weeks before he went as I to started to get a conscience... but obviously this was a perfect example of too little too late.

I don't wish to see heavier moderation here as I still have trust in our ability to moderate ourselves - but perhaps the desire to do so is being undermined by 'cabin fever' - thats how it sometimes feels around here - as if people need a wee break to air out the cobwebs and let go of some underlying resentments.

What brought us together was a dislike of the way another forum was being run - not 100% shared ideologies or world views - we are bound to disagree but I feel as if people are not showing the respect for other peoples opinions that they could - I loathe seeing name calling and accusations of people being a 'shill'.

My perspective about this thread is similar to that I rambled about on my no such thing as can't thread. I cannot force people to take responsibility for their posts - I can be responsible for mine. I am going to actively choose not to allow others posts to annoy me as it is a waste of time - If someone derails a thread I shall simply not respond to the offending post and instead respond to one that is on topic - if I don't like a topic I shant post in the thread - If someone is rude or condescending shall ignore that and concentrate on any information they are presenting and lastly I shall attempt to respond to the post and not attack the poster.

If I break a rule then I expect to be pulled up on it - if others break a rule I shall speak up - but I am not going to attempt to stifle what they have to say if it falls within the rules of the place.

I have no issues with any individual members here - I like and respect you all.
