G'day Space Bandit.

I had a mental flash of Darth Vader saying, "The cognitive dissonance is strong in this one." :psketti:

Make sense?

Wage chattel would make more sense than wage slave. It would refer to a job which binds the person to the work in such a way they are very restricted in their freedom. That would go from kids making footballs for 10 hours a day with no rights to people who work for diamond mines and have to live in company houses and buy from the company shop. I do not see examples of a wage chattel in the UK. I am certainly not one.

If you can afford to buy a nice 6 bedroom farmhouse in cash and a few dozen hectares of land along with it and only work 20 hours a week at most then I'd say its not too bad.

If on the other hand you earn 30k or so for 40 hours a week of dredgery and have to support a family with it, struggle to pay bills need working tax credits to make ends meet and end up in debt then thats not the case.

What about those who have the nice farmhouse etc, but to get that put in 60 hour weeks, have eye watering debts and hate their job? What about people on £25k who have a family and are not that materialistic so have no debt and love their job?

So far a wage slave appears to be someone who hates their job or working in general, but they are greedy for things and so keep doing it.

They're slaves irregardless of how they or you feel about it, or how well/poorly individuals feel about it.
The more they/you think it's ok, the less can be done about the overall situation. Wahey to go...

If you think that a wage slave here is living acceptably compared to chattel slavery, look at the forms of slavery a monetary paradigm perpetuates such as child labour and sweatshops in order for people here to think they don't live in slave conditions.
It's completely immoral & totally out of date.

Why not? You are unable to pin down exactly what counts as a supposed wage slave. You have even accepted that the rich can be wage slaves. So we are all slaves, which removes all meaning to the word slave and equates well off, free and happy people with actual slaves.

There is denial and then Ian Duncan Smith levels of denial.
You're well into the latter territory and now look like an idiot.

Next up you'll be whining about doleys and immigrants and approving of eugenics.

You are in a prison of your own making, caused by an inability to get a half decent job, enjoy life and the significant freedoms we have in the UK. You should break out, get yourself a job you regard as worthwhile and fulfilling, some good friends and do what you want to do.

Its called engineered situation by design.
Salaries are set by the market quite deliberately at the levels they are because of action after action by the big boys very early on and they are just building on it now.
Small biz is fucked, either broke or bought up by larger business and that trend will do nothing but continue, there is nothing to stop it now.

Spare us the crap.

There is a joint fault between individuals, the banks and the government that has caused this (from your links)

"A YouGov poll commissioned by Shelter suggests that six in ten working families are already struggling or falling behind with their rent or mortgage. Previous research from the charity indicated that over a third of workers would be unable to pay their rent or mortgage for more than a month if they lost their job."

and this

"Millions of struggling families can only afford to eat by dipping into savings or racking up credit card debts. One in five households say their budget failed to cover food and other household bills last month.

I feel sorry for you if you are one of those individuals who gorged in the debt trough and have saddled yourself with big problems. But you are in part to blame. I can see how you feel enslaved as you are possibly teetering on the edge or are possibly fucked.

Those of us who were not greedy and were sceptical of the banks and government behaviour during the boom are fine. That leaves me free to do what I want, when I want to. I am not a slave to the system, I beat it.

Is small business fucked?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-business-26171214

"The number of new businesses registered with Companies House rose to 30,263 last year, a 19% increase on the 2012 figure of 25,500.
The statistics were collated by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) in Scotland. The Scottish government has estimated that more than 340,000 businesses were operating in Scotland last year. That was the highest since records began, it said."

A - so your slavery is in your head.

B - liar, see bold above. Some people were duped by the banks, especially when they thought it was OK to lie about how much they earn to get a mortgage. But any reasonable person should have realised that was going to come back and bite them. There were many millions who did not go bonkers during the boom. I feel even more sorry for them as they have seen savings rates decline to virtually nothing, their pensions raided, wages reduced and services cut.

London had the most firms close down
Business admin and support was the worst-hit sector

More than 800 British businesses a day collapsed last year - the highest number ever recorded.

It was the second year in a row in which more companies closed down than started up, according to the figures released by the Office of National Statistics.

The bleak economic outlook is discouraging entrepreneurs from taking a risk on a new venture, leaving the prospects for growth even more gloomy.

According to Bloomberg, 8 out of 10 entrepreneurs who start businesses fail within the first 18 months. A whopping 80% crash and burn.
